The White Lotus star reveals “gamey” behind-the-scenes dynamic

Actor Jason Isaacs, known for his role in The White Lotus, has dished out some insider info about the series, likening its atmosphere to a “gamelike” environment.

Earlier this month, the third season of the HBO anthology series made a comeback. This new chapter unfolds in Thailand and delves into the mysteries and underhanded dealings happening within the named resort chain.

After the season opener a week ago, Isaacs, portraying financier Timothy Ratliff, dropped by “The One Show” on Friday, February 21. There, he talked about aspects of the show, jokingly mentioning that some behind-the-scenes tension mirrored what was happening on set.

As a passionate viewer, I must say that the series feels quite “character-driven,” much like the hit show “White Lotus.” While the majority of cast members generally get along, there are moments when alliances shift and dissolve. It seems that behind the camera, just as on screen, there’s a hidden drama unfolding, hopefully without the need for any real body bags.

In continuation, Isaac, who has graced screens in shows like The OA and Star Trek: Discovery, went on to discuss the filming experience. He revealed that due to the intense heat and large group of actors involved, playing the role wasn’t a vacation by any means.

For seven months, we were packed tightly together, almost like pockets full of coins, he explained. Yet, one shouldn’t be envious of such a situation – it wasn’t a relaxing getaway! Instead, forty individuals shared a villa without air conditioning in scorching temperatures exceeding 100 degrees. We were all caked in makeup, with lights blazing and the crew constantly present, making it an exhausting day-long affair.

In a unique interview with Digital Spy, Natasha Rothwell, co-star of Isaac, discusses her character Belinda Lindsey’s latest storyline. This time, Belinda shares screen time with her on-screen son, Zion, played by Nicholas Duvernay.

She expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “First off, Nicholas is an outstanding actor, and I can’t wait for everyone to get to know him.” She continued, “He’s incredibly gifted… It’s quite fascinating to portray the mother of a grown son. For me personally, navigating a new dynamic with my parents when I grew up was something I had to experience as well.

As a fan, I’ve always admired them for being genuine individuals. It’s amazing to witness their growth and evolution as they navigate through this new phase in their relationship. He’s been off pursuing his education at graduate school, so it’s fascinating to observe him transition into an adult and provide some breathing room for him in this setting is quite exciting.

The White Lotus airs on HBO and Max in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
