The Wheel of Time Season 4 Will Cover Multiple Books and Shock Fans
Warning: Spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 3, episode 8
In the upcoming fourth season of “The Wheel of Time,” four storylines from various books have been assembled. While the Amazon Prime Video adaptation has typically followed a one-book-per-season approach based on Robert Jordan’s series, it has also blended elements from several novels into its narratives. Given that the first three seasons primarily focused on the plots of the first, second, and fourth books, there is an expectation that the next season will adhere to a similar structure.
It seems likely that one book won’t solely dictate the main plot for “The Wheel of Time” season 4, but rather a blend of several books. The final episodes of season 3 appear to have set up a narrative that could be driven by as many as four different books in the series, shaping its upcoming storyline.
4. The Dragon Reborn
Rand Takes The Stone of Tear In The Third Wheel Of Time Book
It seems like the TV series adaptation of “The Wheel of Time” is deviating from the sequence of events in the books. Instead of following Moiraine Damodred’s advice and taking the Stone of Tear as Rand al’Thor does in the novels, he decides to visit the Aiel city of Rhuidean first in the show. This change allows the series to bypass the events of “The Dragon Reborn,” where Rand’s seizure of the Stone of Tear served as the climax of the book. However, it appears that the show hasn’t abandoned this plotline entirely, as it continues to hint that Rand must ultimately claim the Stone of Tear and wield Callandor to fulfill the Dragon Reborn prophecy.
In the final episode of season 3 of The Wheel of Time, Moiraine observes that with the Aiel supporting him, Rand now possesses a powerful force that could capture the Stone of Tear. This implies that obtaining Callandor, the sword that was once wielded by the Dragon, may be Rand’s next objective in season 4. Given that much of The Dragon Reborn seems irrelevant at this stage in the story, and Rand’s journey to Tear wasn’t extensively detailed in the book, it’s possible that The Wheel of Time series will expedite this event in the upcoming season.
3. The Fires Of Heaven
Rand Fights Rahvin In The Fifth Wheel Of Time Book
It’s expected that “The Dragon Reborn” will occupy some portion of season 4, but it seems like “The Fires of Heaven” will be the main focus. Evidence suggests this is the next book to be adapted. For instance, Couladin, in defiance, rejects Rand as the Car’a’carn and departs with the Shaido. In “The Fires of Heaven”, this choice leads to a confrontation between Rand’s forces and the Shaido, culminating in a pursuit that ends in Cairhein. Following this, Rand targets Rahvin, who has usurped Queen Morgase’s throne. This plotline has already been established, with Rahvin using Compulsion on the queen and her family, as confirmed earlier in the series.
In the upcoming season 4, not only does Rahvin, who was Rand’s main adversary in “The Fires of Heaven” novel, seem poised to take on a villainous role, but Nynaeve’s group is similarly heading towards confronting Moghedien, their foe from the book. Much like at the end of “The Shadow Rising,” Moghedien now possesses a piece of the male a’dam. If the show adheres to the plotline established in “The Fires of Heaven,” the characters from “Wheel of Time” may resort to using Tel’aran’rhiod, a dreamworld, to locate Moghedien.
2. Lord Of Chaos
The Aes Sedai Capture Rand In The Sixth Wheel Of Time Book
In season 4, it’s possible that Rahvin and Couladin won’t be the only challenges Rand will face. Elaida has mentioned she’ll dispatch eight Aes Sedai after him, stating that this number is sufficient to apprehend a male channeler. Furthermore, Galina Caspan seems to have assumed command of the Red Ajah within the White Tower. These events set the stage for the narrative in “Lord of Chaos,” where Galina directs the Aes Sedai on a quest to capture Rand.
As a movie buff, I’d rephrase it like this: In “Lord of Chaos,” it’s the voice of Lews Therin Telamon, also known as The Dragon, that ultimately saves Rand. This enigmatic presence in his mind guides him on what he needs to do to break the shield surrounding him. Hints of this development were subtly suggested by the cryptic, shrouded figure seen in the finale of “The Wheel of Time” season 3.
1. Towers Of Midnight
Perrin Stands Trial For Killing Geofram Bornhald In The Thirteenth Wheel Of Time Book
In terms of an unexpected selection, it seems that Towers of Midnight could be the prime candidate for the foundation of a fourth season narrative, given its thirteenth position in the series. However, this appears to align with the direction the show is taking, as suggested by the ending of The Wheel of Time season 3, episode 7. Instead of dismissing the Whitecloaks, Perrin handed himself over to Dain Bornhald in season 2’s finale to answer for the slaying of Geofram Bornhald, his father.
By this point in the series, The Wheel of Time laid the foundation for Perrin’s narrative to unfold as depicted in Towers of Midnight. In the storyline, Perrin found himself imprisoned by the Whitecloaks and faced trial over the accusation of murdering Geofram. It seems that since Perrin was entirely absent from The Fires of Heaven, the show is resorting to drawing elements from a later book to maintain Perrin’s significance within the overall plot.
