The Wheel Of Time Is Officially Returning With New Show & It’s Better Than Continuing The Prime Video Series

Though the Prime Video series recently concluded after three seasons, the future of The Wheel of Time looks bright. Plans are now underway for a new series and other projects, and many believe this approach is more promising than simply continuing the original show. The Wheel of Time first premiered on Prime Video on November 19, 2021, and quickly became a popular fantasy hit.

Despite its popularity, Prime Video canceled The Wheel of Time on May 23, 2025. Deadline reported the decision wasn’t based on the show’s quality, but on financial considerations. This means the series, adapted from Robert Jordan’s fantasy novels, joins the list of Prime Video shows ending prematurely. Fortunately, the story isn’t over, as plans are already underway to continue the franchise.

Though the first live-action season of The Wheel of Time has finished, the fantasy world will be returning with several new projects. Variety reports that adaptations currently in development include a video game, animated films, and another animated series, which will most closely resemble the recently concluded Prime Video show.

The news is buzzing with excitement, and a lot of that is thanks to the team working on the latest The Wheel of Time projects. Thomas Vu, who produced the acclaimed Arcane series for Netflix, is now leading development of the franchise alongside iwot Studios. Arcane is widely considered a standout show on Netflix, and one of the best fantasy and animated series ever made.

If the upcoming Wheel of Time series is as good as Arcane, fans are in for a treat. Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon, who both worked as producers on the previous Wheel of Time series for Prime Video, are also involved in this new project. Though the first series was well-received, earning an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes, a fresh approach is a positive step.

Honestly, I think a lot of us would still tune in for a fourth season of The Wheel of Time on Prime Video. But let’s be real, the show definitely faced its share of problems over the past three seasons. Early on, people complained about the production values – it didn’t always look as epic as the books felt. But the biggest issue, for me and a lot of fans I know, was how much the show strayed from the original story. It just didn’t always feel true to the source material.

That’s why I believe a new animated series would be a better direction for The Wheel of Time than continuing with the live-action show. Animation would allow the series to fully realize its expansive world and look as amazing as fans imagine. Plus, they could really showcase the magic and action with incredible visuals.

The success of Prime Video’s animated fantasy series, like The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein from Critical Role, demonstrates the strong potential for a Wheel of Time animated series. If the new Wheel of Time series captures the same magic and stays true to the source material, it’s likely to be a hit with audiences around the globe.
