The Wheel of Time casts Galad, Gawyn, Queen Morgese and more for season 3

As a long-time fan of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series “The Wheel of Time,” I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming third season, set to adapt “The Shadow Rising.” The second season was a significant improvement over the first, and the latest trailer has sent my anticipation soaring!

In the third season coming soon on Prime Video, the acclaimed fantasy series The Wheel of Time will be based on the book The Shadow Rising, which is frequently hailed as one of Robert Jordan’s finest works in his 14-book collection. The second season built upon the first and the show has been picking up steam, receiving a significant boost following the release of an intriguing new trailer just recently.

Additionally, it was revealed that Shohreh Aghdashloo, known for her work in “The Expanse,” will be cast as the complex character Elaida, an Aes Sedai sorceress, in the third season. Moreover, we’ve got some exciting news to share about other actors joining the series! They’ll bring to life several significant characters that book enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating. First amongst them…

Olivia Williams as Queen Morgase Trakand

Queen Morgase Trakand reigns over Andor, the dominant nation within the Westlands, where much of the “Wheel of Time” narrative unfolds. She is not only the monarch but also the mother of Elayne, introduced as an Aes Sedai trainee in the second season of the series, portrayed by Ceara Coveney. Morgase embodies regality, justice, and a touch of temperament, truly fitting the role of a queen. She has been preparing Elayne to assume her throne.

Olivia Williams is a highly accomplished British actress who has made a lasting impact in various fields, from stage performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company to roles in films such as “The Sixth Sense” and television shows like “The Crown”. Currently, she’s delivering a remarkable performance as Tula Harkkonen on the HBO series “Dune: Prophecy”, while “The Wheel of Time” fans can rest assured they are in capable hands with her.

At the onset of “The Wheel of Time”, Queen Morguese finds herself without her husband, Taringail Damodred, who perished in a hunting mishap some years prior. However, she isn’t entirely solitary; there are others by her side.

Nuno Lopes as Lord Gaebril

Lord Gaebril serves as both the amorous partner and trusted advisor to Queen Morgase. His authority and sway within the kingdom are substantial, yet due to Andor being a matriarchal society, it is ultimately Queen Morgase who holds the decisive say.

Regarding Nuno Lopes, he is a Portuguese actor who has received accolades for his performances in films such as “Saint George,” which was Portugal’s nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards. Furthermore, he garnered significant praise for portraying a boxer in the Netflix series “White Lines.

For those who have delved into ‘The Wheel of Time’ book series, there could be a deeper side to Lord Gaebril that is yet to be fully revealed. But for now, let’s steer clear of spoilers and focus on Morgase’s offspring.

Luke Fetherston as Lord Galad

Galad is a brother to Elayne and Gawyn, who we’ll meet in a second. As the press release puts it, “Galad is a skilled fighter, famously handsome, and protective of his younger sister.”

Speaking of Fetherston, he is a talented actor hailing from Britain, known for his appearances in television series such as Doctor Who, along with numerous roles on the theater stage.

Callum Kerr as Lord Gawyn

In conclusion, we have Callum Kerr portraying Lord Gawyn, who is introduced in the press release as “a prince from Andor, elder brother to Galad and Elayne. Interestingly, despite being the eldest, he’s not the one destined for the throne. That privilege belongs to his younger sister, Elayne, as Andor is a matriarchal society.

As a movie enthusiast, I couldn’t help but notice Callum Kerr in the thrilling trailer for “The Wheel of Time” season 3. Dive into our intricate analysis of the screenshots for even more exciting insights!

Is The Wheel of Time changing Galad and Gawyn?

The descriptions in the press release regarding Galad and Gawyn from ‘The Wheel of Time’ series seem a bit muddled, as they don’t align with the order presented in the books. According to Robert Jordan’s writing, Galad is the eldest among the siblings, followed by Gawyn, then Elayne. However, the press release we received states that Gawyn is the “senior brother to Galad and Elayne.” This discrepancy might require clarification.

In the novels, both Gawyn and Elayne are recognized children of Queen Morgase and her deceased husband Taringail Damodred. However, Galad is their elder half-brother, born from Taringail’s previous marriage to another woman. As for now, it’s uncertain if the series adaptation will alter the family dynamics or if there has been a simple mix-up between the characters Galad and Gawyn by someone in the promotional team. It’s not surprising for Wheel of Time fans to make such errors occasionally.

In any case, The Wheel of Time season 3 will premiere on Prime Video on March 13, 2025.
