The Wayans Brothers are back for Scary Movie 6 with Miramax and Paramount

As a die-hard fan of the Scary Movie franchise, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming reboot, Scary Movie 6! Ever since the Wayans Brothers announced their return to produce and write the screenplay, I’ve been on cloud nine. I still remember how those first two movies back in the early 2000s brought laughter and joy into my life during some tough times.

In April of 2024, we shared news about a remake of the “Scary Movie” film series. Now, it has been revealed that the original creators, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Marlon Wayans (collectively known as the Wayans Brothers), are coming back to work on the reboot, which is commonly referred to as “Scary Movie 6”. The Wayans Brothers‘ frequent collaborator Rick Alvarez will also contribute to writing the script and producing.

As a die-hard fan of the Scary Movie series, I’ve always yearned to see the Wayans Brothers rejoin this cinematic journey somehow, and it seems my dream has finally materialized! Keenen was the mastermind behind the first two Scary Movies, while Shawn and Marlon played significant roles in writing the scripts for those films, not to mention their acting prowess. However, they’ve been absent from the last three installments of the franchise.

Paramount Pictures has been chosen as the global distributor for the upcoming horror-comedy movie titled Scary Movie 6. Miramax will be funding the production of this film, and it is anticipated that the filming will commence around autumn this year. A theatrical release is expected to take place in the year 2025.

As of now, no actors have been confirmed for this upcoming movie, but Anna Faris, known for her role as Cindy Campbell in the earlier movies, has expressed a desire to reprise her part if the circumstances are favorable. In an interview with People last July, she mentioned that she might return as Cindy for Scary Movie 6, provided the financial aspect is suitable and Regina Hall, who played Brenda Meeks in those films, decides to come back too.

I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much. We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!

In 2022, Hall expressed her wish to revisit the franchise and catch up with all the characters after so many years. She discussed this with Matt Cohen from Entertainment Tonight, stating, “I’d be curious to know where they are now. I don’t think it’s a fantastic place, but it would be entertaining to find out.” Here’s hoping that Faris and Hall get invited back for another installment since the Scary Movie series wouldn’t feel complete without these original stars!
