The Watcher Officially Returns to the MCU for His 6th Cameo

The Watcher recently made a surprising cameo in *Marvel Zombies*, setting a new record for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s become a key figure since appearing in the Disney+ animated series *What If…?*, which ran for three seasons and brought him into the spotlight. As an all-powerful being who observes countless alternate realities, the Watcher’s ongoing presence in MCU projects keeps things intriguing and unpredictable, hinting at connections to the larger Multiverse.

Uatu, also known as The Watcher, recently appeared in both Eyes of Wakanda and Marvel Zombies. This brings his total appearances in Disney+ animated projects to six, making him the MCU character with the most appearances in any Disney+ show.

The Watcher showed up early in the third episode of *Marvel Zombies*, but he seems unable to change what’s happening because this universe is already destined to fall.

The Watcher’s short appearance in Episode 3 builds on his role from Season 1, Episode 5 of *What If…?*, where he narrated the story.

In the *Eyes of Wakanda* series, the Watcher appeared much like he did in *Marvel Zombies*. Uatu showed up early in Episode 4, watching Tafari and Kuda from above Wakanda in a scene set in the past.

The first season of *Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man* ended with a scene mirroring previous episodes: the Watcher observing Spider-Man as he starts becoming a hero in New York City.

The mysterious Watcher had a noticeable and unsettling appearance in the fifth episode of *X-Men ’97*, an episode also marked by the devastating Sentinel attack on Genosha and Gambit’s heroic sacrifice.

Even though *I Am Groot* was shorter and had a different style, the Watcher still appeared in Season 2. He could be seen in the background as the Guardians of the Galaxy traveled through space in their ship.

The Watcher is most notably featured in *What If…?*, where he directly influenced events throughout the Multiverse. Although his storyline concluded in Season 3, he remains a key figure in the larger Multiverse narrative.

Marvel Studios is making it clear they plan to continue using the Watcher character, and he might even appear in future live-action *Avengers* films.

The Watcher appears in more Marvel Studios’ Disney+ shows than anyone else, but several other characters are close behind in terms of appearances.

Following the *Marvel Zombies* series, Zemo, Rocket Raccoon, Scarlet Witch, and Spider-Man are all tied for having appeared in the most Disney+ shows, with four appearances each.

Will the Watcher Appear in Avengers: Doomsday?

Since *Avengers: Doomsday* kicks off the big finale of the Multiverse Saga, it’s likely we’ll see the Watcher make an appearance, even if just to show he’s still observing everything.

It’s unclear if he’ll get involved, but Doctor Doom’s scheme to cause Multiversal chaos might be what finally compels the Watcher to act and help the heroes.

The season 3 finale of *What If…?* revealed that the Watcher has assembled a team called the Exiles to protect the Multiverse when threats arise. Although Captain Carter appeared to sacrifice herself at the end, the Exiles still boast significant strength with members like Storm, Kahhori, and Byrdie remaining on the team.

The Watcher has the ability to call upon the Exiles for assistance, potentially helping the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men battle Doctor Doom in *Doomsday*. However, considering the considerable power these heroes already possess, it might be unnecessary.
