The Wanted star Max George shares health update as he battles heart condition which will keep him in hospital over Christmas
As a longtime fan of The Wanted, I find myself both heartened and saddened by the latest developments in Max George’s life. On one hand, it’s fantastic to see him taking control of his personal life and health, overcoming his struggles with binge drinking and finding love with Maisie Smith. It’s a testament to his resilience and strength, and I can’t help but feel a sense of admiration for him.
Max George has revealed he will undergo open heart surgery to have a pacemaker fitted.
36-year-old celebrity from The Wanted group shared a message on social media over the weekend, providing an update following his recent announcement about being hospitalized due to an unidentified heart issue that had been discovered earlier in the week.
Following additional examinations by medical professionals, it was disclosed that Max requires a device to regulate his heartbeat, as an underlying problem was detected in the lower portion of his heart.
He indicated towards his chest and said, “I am absolutely planning to implant a small companion in here at some stage.
As a lifestyle advisor, I find myself grappling with an issue related to my cardiac health – specifically, a condition known as angina or coronary artery blockage. However, the challenge lies in determining the root cause of this blockage, as further diagnostic tests are required before we can pinpoint the specific factors involved.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but ponder over the enigma surrounding my idol, the man behind “Glad You Came.” Despite medical professionals ruling out some potential explanations, the true nature of his situation remains shrouded in mystery.
Max, who has overcome past struggles with alcohol, stated: “I haven’t touched alcohol for nearly five years now, so it’s not a factor in my current situation.
‘It’s a bit of a mystery really, but that’s the hard bit. It’s the waiting. My heart rate is really, really low. They’re monitoring it 24/7, everyone has been amazing.
‘But the waiting bit is tough. It’s just one of them things unfortunately. Whatever I get, I’ve got to get on with it. We’re hoping pacemaker, a pacemaker is good.’
On Friday, the singer announced that he had experienced a challenging day at the hospital. He expressed, “Today has been somewhat difficult for me.
This morning, my heart rate unexpectedly lowered, causing a moment of worry. However, the people around me were incredible and managed to increase it slightly and stabilize it, which is fantastic news.
Many people, including friends and relatives, have been wondering why I haven’t jumped right into the treatment yet. However, it’s crucial to go through numerous tests first before making any decisions.
I only need to make it through until next week and complete all my tests. Once that’s done, the right course of action will be clear.
Max concluded his message by noting he is determined to stay positive amid the ordeal.
He said: ‘Obviously they’ll be able to do something but it’ll be better doing it with all the information they need. But year, it’s s**** But still here and staying positive.’
To begin with, on Instagram, Max announced that he would be celebrating Christmas this year inside a hospital, as he’s currently dating the ex-actress from EastEnders, Maisie Smith.
Yesterday, I didn’t feel well at all and had to go to the hospital. Sadly, some examinations revealed problems with my heart.
I’ve got quite a few examinations ahead to fully understand the issues at hand and figure out the necessary surgical intervention that will help me regain my mobility again.
It looks like the upcoming weeks or months will pose some challenges… And I hadn’t anticipated spending Christmas in a hospital bed!
Of course, I’m consistently enveloped by a sea of love and encouragement from my remarkable partner Maisie, her beloved family, my own family, and friends. And let me assure you, I couldn’t be more content knowing that I am exactly where I should be.
Despite being a significant surprise and undeniably a hurdle, I’m determined to face it head-on with everything at my disposal! I consider myself extremely fortunate that it was detected early.
I apologize in advance for any repetitive information you might receive over the next few weeks, as I’ll likely be spending most of my time resting for about a month. There won’t be an overwhelming amount of activities during this period.
For quite some time now, I’ve been transparent about my struggle with excessive drinking and alcohol dependency. Previously, I acknowledged that on certain occasions, I would consume a substantial amount – roughly ten pints and three bottles of wine within a single evening.
In my role as a lifestyle advisor, I’d like to share a personal insight. Last year, a renowned artist openly disclosed that he resorted to alcohol as a means of coping with the intense glare of stardom and managing his anxiety at its peak. This was during what he described as his most challenging period yet.
He mentioned an occasion where he drank ten pints and three bottles of wine on the same night, as part of his birthday festivities.
The binge contained roughly 38 units of alcohol. The NHS advises that men and women don’t consume more than 14 units across the space of a week.
On Channel 4’s Scared Of The Dark, he shared that he was usually intoxicated before our performances. He found it difficult to adjust, so he would drink to help him appear unfazed.
Occasionally, it can be challenging to tell apart anxiety from depression, but for me, it was predominantly anxiety that surfaced, particularly when All Time Low reached number one.
Speaking about his excessive celebrations for his birthday, he admitted, “I fell sick for an entire week. Upon examination, the doctor found that my liver enzyme levels were quite low. I realized I need to take care of my liver, so I decided to stop.
He additionally mentioned that he too found motivation to give up alcohol upon hearing about Tom Parker’s stage four glioblastoma diagnosis, his fellow band member.
Tom died aged 33 on March 30, 2022 following an 18-month battle with brain cancer.
Overwhelmed with emotion, he poured out his heart to Paul, saying, “How do you manage such a situation? Since there’s no known remedy, one can only adapt and move forward with life, I suppose. Yet, cope with it, I most certainly do not.
As a dedicated follower, I must confess, I don’t think I’ll find peace with it anytime soon. One of my final words to him were, “I owe you a debt I can never repay. Our musical journey together transformed my life beyond what I ever dared to imagine.
He was my dearest friend. Oh dear, I simply don’t wish for our friendship to feel like an obligation or something shared with others.
Previously, Max shared that his sober lifestyle has brought clarity to his life, albeit leaving him feeling quite bored during weekends.
Last March, he stated that it had been approximately 18 months since he last drank alcohol. People often comment, “Don’t you feel much better now?
On weekends, I find myself feeling quite uninterestingly dull. The workweek is predictably draining, but during that time, it’s simpler for me to maintain my fitness. So, things are quite straightforward for me right now.
In early 2014, The Wanted shared a message explaining that they needed some space to focus on individual projects.
In October 2020, Max’s bandmate Tom was told by doctors that he had only a year left to live. Tragically, Tom passed away in 2022.
As a passionate admirer, allow me to rephrase the sentence: Alongside my beloved idol, the lovely Kelsey, I share the delight of nurturing five-year-old Aurelia and four-year-old Bodhi. Currently, she’s blossoming in a beautiful relationship with her new partner, Will.
Max has been in a relationship with EastEnders star Maisie Smith, 23, since 2022.
The duo was scheduled to portray a married couple in Jeff Wayne’s musical adaptation of “The War of the Worlds,” set to go on tour in 2025.
After appearing on Strictly, Max received an invitation for the dance show’s nationwide tour the following year, during which he developed a romantic relationship with his fellow performer Maisie.
In the year 2022, he found himself justifying their 13-year age difference when he said to Hello!, “I rarely think about it. Maisie is extraordinary, and I find myself inspired by all she has accomplished – I admire her greatly.
Max and Siva reformed the group earlier this year a decade after the boyband’s split.
Back in April, when Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes decided to step back, I was left reeling as a die-hard fan. But then, hope ignited within me! Max and Siva joined forces, forming a dynamic duo that revitalized the spirit of The Wanted 2.0, embarking on an unforgettable tour that had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation.
Back in January 2014, I, one of their die-hard fans, received news that left me reeling – my beloved band, The Wanted, shared a message stating they needed some time apart to chase after their individual dreams and ambitions. It was a bittersweet moment for us all, but the love and support for these talented guys remains unwavering!
Last week, it was announced that Max and Siva will be the main acts for their inaugural UK concert as The Wanted 2.0, taking place at Manchester Cathedral.
Additionally, it was disclosed that they will be the main act for ten shows in 2025 at the UK’s largest food and music fest.
Following Max’s health scare, it is unclear whether the duo will be going along with their tour.
