The Wanted lead a minute long ovation to Liam Payne at Niagara Fall concert and credit tragic star for his support after late bandmate Tom Parker was diagnosed with a brain tumour

The Wanted led their fans in a minute of applause for the late Liam Payne on Thursday evening.
On a Wednesday in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, a member of the popular band One Direction perished instantly upon falling from a balcony on the third floor of a hotel.
One night later, the British band The Wanted honored their former companion during their show at the Avalon Theatre in Niagara Falls, Canada.
The bandmates Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, and Nathan Sykes recalled the kindness and support he showed them upon the passing of their former bandmate Tom Parker due to a brain tumor in 2022.
Yesterday, I was struck by the gut-wrenching news about a dear acquaintance of mine – Liam Payne. The revelation hit me like a ton of bricks and left an indelible mark on my heart.
‘Our thoughts and prayers go out to him, his friends, family and fans all over the world.”
He observed that the singer was extremely supportive during the fundraiser after Tom received his diagnosis.
He added: ‘He was the first person, the first artist to put his hand up and say that he wanted to perform, which we’ll never forget.
I was truly touched by his incredible presence… And surprisingly, after Tom’s passing, I was amazed to see him at the funeral. His support during that difficult time was unwavering, even though our friendship wasn’t particularly close-knit prior to this event.
‘Our friendship lasted until the time when Tom passed away. He was incredibly helpful and supportive, a fact we’ll always remember vividly.’
Afterwards, Max and Siva encouraged everyone to join in a long round of applause for Liam, which continued for more than a minute.
The touching moment came after Max had earlier shared a tribute to Liam on Instagram.
He wrote alongside a number of photos: ‘Absolutely devastating news. I met Liam way back when 1D were on X Factor.
Over the past several years, I’ve developed a close friendship with him and cherished the moments we shared together.
Liam showed tremendous kindness and support when Tom became ill, even joining us for a performance at the Royal Albert Hall as part of Stand Up To Cancer.
‘He supported me a lot personally after Tom passed. I will never forget that.’
He commented: ‘At this sorrowful moment, my sympathies go out to his family, acquaintances, and supporters worldwide. Farewell, Liam. Lots of love, my brother.’ [informal]
It comes as:
- Liam had been ‘re-working’ his favorite One Direction track ‘Fireproof’ on his computer just hours before his death.
- He was in Argentina to renew his US visa and had passed medical and psychological tests days before which proved he was ‘totally clean.’
- He was in ‘good spirits’ and had been planning to fly back home to girlfriend Kate Cassidy in Miami on Friday.
- His final meal was his favourite, chocolate-chip cookies.
On Saturday night, Payne received a special recognition, as the new inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced in Cleveland, Ohio.
The British vocalist found a place in the annual tributes held at Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
A photo of Payne, captured from his time with One Direction, flashed onto the screen, causing a storm of applause and excitement among the audience members.
At exactly 5:04 PM on a Wednesday afternoon, the unfortunate incident occurred where the singer fell instantly to his death from a height of 45 feet off his third-floor hotel balcony, landing on the patio area beneath.
The authorities discovered illicit substances, among which was ‘crystal’ – a powerful psychoactive substance known for inducing temporary memory loss and psychotic incidents.

According to several police informants, investigators think an individual at the hotel provided him with narcotics.

However, upon visiting the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires a fortnight ago, Payne learned that the officials there had conducted an online search on him, uncovering his history of multiple visits to rehabilitation centers due to substance abuse issues with drugs and alcohol.
Last week, I was instructed to undergo various medical examinations – including blood tests, X-rays, and consultations with both a doctor and a psychiatrist. To my initial surprise, this extended stay turned out to be longer than anticipated due to all the tests and assessments required. Initially, I believed the trip would be brief, but unfortunately, it dragged on due to these necessary medical procedures.
Following our weekend getaway at a polo farm near Buenos Aires, my girlfriend Kate Cassidy returned to Miami on Monday to look after our pet. Meanwhile, I stayed at CasaSur hotel.
‘He had no money and his credit cards weren’t working, so he was spending all his time in the room.
‘On Tuesday he asked for a McDonald’s. He was happy and in good spirits.
On Tuesday, all tests produced completely clear outcomes. Later, on Thursday, he had a scheduled meeting at the embassy to obtain a visa stamp in his passport. Immediately after that, he planned to depart from Argentina straight away.
A family acquaintance stopped by him at about 10:00am that day, bearing his beloved ‘American-style’ chocolate-chip cookies from a nearby bakery, just three blocks away from the hotel.
‘He seemed a bit tipsy, like he had been drinking, but wasn’t in a bad state. He was happy.
In my digital workspace, I found myself meticulously reproducing the enchanting melody of “Fireproof” by One Direction. It’s not just a song for me; it’s a piece of art that stirs something deep within, especially when it comes to their instrumental arrangements – my absolute favorite from this exceptional band.
‘He was redoing the beat. He was in a good place, planning for the future, looking forward to going home to Miami to his girlfriend and his dog.’
