Australian actor Callan McAuliffe honored the memory of director Rob Reiner after Reiner passed away Sunday in Los Angeles.
At just 14 years old, The Walking Dead actor landed his first major film role in the 2010 movie Flipped, starring alongside Madeline Carroll. He is now 30.
Terry McAuliffe hadn’t posted on Instagram for a year, but he returned on Tuesday morning to share a heartfelt message honoring a respected filmmaker.
He posted two pictures to his page, including one of himself with Reiner on the set of Flipped. The photo showed the director giving him advice while they were filming.
The actor, originally from Sydney, also posted a picture of Reiner with his late wife, Michele, who passed away at their home in Los Angeles.
After landing a role in a film directed by Reiner, McAuliffe began his acting career in Hollywood. He later appeared in popular projects like Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and the television show Mayfair Witches.

According to sources at the Daily Mail, Nick Reiner, the son of director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, has been arrested and charged with felony murder. This comes after Rob and Michele were found stabbed to death at their home.
On Sunday afternoon, a couple was reportedly stabbed at their Los Angeles home after a fight with a relative, believed to be named Nick, escalated into violence.
Police are questioning the 32-year-old son after his arrest Sunday night. He was booked on a charge of felony murder Monday morning and is currently being held on $4 million bail, according to Los Angeles Sheriff’s records.
Reiner directed some of the most popular films from the 1980s and 90s, such as Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, the legal thriller A Few Good Men, and the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at a home in Brentwood on Sunday around 3:30 PM. Firefighters found a 78-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman deceased inside.
Their daughter, Romy, who lives nearby, found them at their large home yesterday afternoon.
According to TMZ, Reiner’s 28-year-old child—his youngest—told police they believe a family member should be considered a suspect, describing them as ‘dangerous’.
Nick has openly discussed his past battles with drug addiction, including entering rehab around the age of 15 and, at times, experiencing homelessness.

In 2016, at 22 years old, he revealed he’d been to rehab 17 times. He also shared that he’d experienced homelessness several times because he initially resisted seeking treatment.
The screenwriter helped create the movie Being Charlie, a story inspired by his own experiences with drug addiction and how it affected his family.
While in rehab, he worked on the film with his father, who also directed it. The movie portrays a difficult relationship between an actor and his son struggling with addiction, mirroring the real-life experiences of their own family, as they shared when the film was released.
The story concludes with the father apologizing for sometimes being too tough on his son, even resorting to sending him to rehab – a situation the director, Reiner, admits mirroring in his own life with his son.
Los Angeles police are investigating the deaths as murders, and a large number of officers were at the house Sunday evening.
According to a neighbor who spoke with ABC7, Larry David and Billy Crystal – both stars of the classic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally – each visited the location where the incident occurred. The neighbor said Crystal appeared very upset, almost as if he was about to cry, before he drove away.
Rob Reiner continued the creative legacy of his father, Carl Reiner, a beloved comedic actor and filmmaker who passed away in 2020 at the age of 98.
Reiner was a celebrated actor and director, and a dedicated advocate for progressive causes. On Sunday, prominent Democrats like California Governor Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, and Barack Obama all honored him with tributes.
Reiner began his career as an actor, and he’s most famous for playing Michael ‘Meathead’ Stivic on the TV show All In The Family.
While working on the show between 1971 and 1978, he received two Emmy Awards and was nominated for five Golden Globes.
I’ll never forget when Reiner came out with This Is Spinal Tap in the ’80s. It was so ahead of its time and completely changed comedy for me – it’s amazing how many films and shows since then have clearly been inspired by it. It really reinvented his career, and I’ve been a fan ever since!
