As a gamer with a deep appreciation for the horror-survival genre and a lifelong fan of The Walking Dead franchise, I can confidently say that Greg Nicotero’s latest venture, Daryl Dixon, has taken the undead experience to new heights. With my heart pounding in my chest and adrenaline coursing through my veins, I’ve journeyed alongside Daryl through the winding alleys of France, battling against not just your average shambler but also enhanced walkers that could give Usain Bolt a run for his money.

Greg Nicotero has been involved in The Walking Dead franchise from day one. He’s been a key figure in the show’s success, from working as a make-up artist to becoming an executive producer and even directing several episodes. In the spinoff show Daryl Dixon, he’s been able to tackle a wholly different environment in France, with all-new walkers.

In the initial season of Daryl Dixon, we were introduced to some new types of zombies. The first group are modified by humans through a sinister combination of experimental substances, making them swifter and extremely hostile. Additionally, there’s the naturally occurring ‘Incendiaries’, who cause a painful rash on anyone they come into contact with; unfortunately, Daryl Dixon encountered one on his very first day in France.

In the second season, Nicotero and his crew delve deeper into the intricate world of enhanced zombie subcultures. “In our show’s universe,” he explained to The Hollywood Reporter, “we have this subspecies of supercharged zombies now.” These experiments make the undead faster and more dangerous, as we learned in season one. This time around… you’ll get a glimpse. You’ll witness more details like veins moving across their faces. We filmed an intense attack scene with many zombies, and they were running at full speed.

Greg Nicotero, often recognized as a dedicated zombie traditionalist, has previously worked on the film “Day of the Dead,” created by the renowned zombie pioneer George A. Romero, who was known for his disdain towards running zombies. However, what led to Nicotero altering his stance? “I’ve been asked a lot, ‘Do you approve of zombies running? I know you’re a purist.’ And I responded, ‘Consider it this way: It’s logical! There’s a reason they’re moving so swiftly. It isn’t just because someone said, ‘Zombies should be fast,’ and we decided to go with it,” he clarified.

In simpler terms, I’ve watched every episode from Daryl Dixon’s second season, and let me tell you, the zombies are significantly more intense this time around.
