The UK at San Diego Comic Con: What we're looking forward to

As a die-hard fan of all things pop culture and entertainment, I can hardly contain my excitement for San Diego Comic Con! With Preview Night just around the corner on July 24, the anticipation is palpable. Cosplayers are perfecting their costumes, vendors are gearing up for crowds, and hotels are filling up with eager attendees.

In July, Southern California welcomes one of the most anticipated global entertainment and pop culture events for five straight days. Preview Night sets the stage on July 24th, and the anticipation is palpable as San Diego Comic Con approaches. Cosplayers are fine-tuning their costumes, vendors are readying themselves for crowds, and hotels are filling up with guests and attendees. The excitement begins on Wednesday when Mayor Todd Gloria, City Councilman Stephen Whitburn, Convention Center President and CEO Rip Rippetoe, San Diego Tourism Authority President and CEO Julie Coker, and Comic-Con’s Fae Desmond and David Glazer offer the formal welcome. Even the “first dog” of San Diego joins in, donning a costume for the occasion.

Regardless of whether you’re physically present in California or browsing online, there’s plenty to be excited about. To hold you over before Hall H fills up, here are some UK entertainment tidbits that might pique your interest.

The captivating Amazon Prime show, “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” based on Tolkien’s legend, has left a lasting impression on both dedicated fans and newcomers. In its inaugural season finale, we discovered the emergence of Sauron, the creation of three rings, and the enigmatic departure of The Stranger, whose true identity remains undisclosed.

According to Vulture.com, a trailer for the second season is expected to be unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con. However, if this doesn’t happen, there’s still a panel featuring J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay on July 26th. The actors will also attend, sharing information about what to look forward to when the series resumes on August 29th.

Fan fun: Next year on Gallifrey

I’ve just finished binge-watching the latest season of Doctor Who, and as usual, my mind is buzzing with questions. The Doctor is currently traveling solo, which makes me wonder what new adventures lie ahead for him. In the final episode, titled “Empire of Death,” we were left with a thought-provoking monologue from Anita Dobson’s character, Mrs. Flood. She directly addressed the audience, shattering the traditional TV boundary – it was quite intriguing!

But life goes on, doesn’t it, ruthlessly? And what happens, you might wonder oh, what happens to that mysterious traveler in time and space known as The Doctor? I’m sorry to say his story ends in absolute terror. Night-night.

Mrs. Flood

As a longtime fan of Doctor Who, I’m both excited and curious about what lies ahead for this iconic British series. The upcoming fan panel titled “The Future of Doctor Who: Share Your Views with the Experts” is an excellent opportunity to engage in insightful discussions with industry professionals. Among them is Sandro Monetti, a British-born journalist, writer, and director who has made a name for himself in Los Angeles as a media consultant and entrepreneur.

Must-have Merchandise: Millie Bobby Brown’s Funko Pop figure

Netflix’s “Stranger Things” breaks genre boundaries and Millie Bobby Brown’s role was instrumental in its achievement. Though she has since moved on to projects like “Enola Holmes” and “Damsel,” her career took off with her portrayal of Eleven – the enigmatic child character endowed with extraordinary abilities.

As an excited fan, I’m thrilled to share that Funko Pop has announced a brand-new Eleven vinyl figure coming soon! This exclusive figure will only be available at SDCC 2024 in California. But fear not, if you can’t make it out west, keep an eye on Funko Pop’s Instagram page. They’ve partnered with retailers across North America who will sell the figures for those of us unable to attend!

During the convention, we’ll share new developments and intriguing moments with you. It’s shaping up to be an exhilarating experience for any geek.
