Copenhagen design studio TABLEAU has teamed up with Bloc Studios again for a joint creation. This is their second project together, focusing on the TRUNK VASE. It beautifully blends TABLEAU’s innovative botanical designs with Bloc Studios’ cutting-edge, avant-garde marble crafting skills.
Just as the name implies, the TRUNK VASE boasts a design that mimics the appearance of a tree trunk. Made from exquisite Giallo Imperiale marble, these pieces capture the rough texture of trees while maintaining the polished elegance of stonework. Skilled Carrara artisans meticulously sculpt each piece to showcase its unique veins and textured surface, before carefully hollowing out the interior to hold live flowers. The vase’s intentionally vague shape encourages viewers to ponder the border between nature and human creation.
Julius Værnes Iversen, the founder and creative director of TABLEAU, characterizes the TRUNK VASE as not just a container for flowers, but rather a discussion about shared connections. He elaborates by stating that they aimed to produce something that mirrors both the human form and the forest, with the viewer’s understanding playing an integral part in the artwork. Meanwhile, Sara Ferron, founder of Bloc Studios, highlights that this collaboration pushed them to transcend marble’s traditional uses – transforming it into a metaphor. The TRUNK VASE exudes a rugged, almost primal quality, yet remains undeniably polished. It embodies the essence of nature and our role within it, emphasizing the thoughtful concept and artistic intent behind the piece. This dialogue between designers highlights the deep-rooted ideas and creative vision driving the creation.
With just ten pieces produced worldwide, the TRUNK VASE is available exclusively through select galleries as well as TABLEAU and
