Harriet Tyce, who became a fan favorite on the 2026 season of The Traitors, has confessed she didn’t enjoy seeing her angry reaction during the show’s dramatic final episode on BBC.
I was absolutely shocked to hear about what happened this week! Our favorite crime novelist – you know, the one who used to be a criminal barrister – was kicked out of the discussion, and it was pretty dramatic. She really lost it with Rachel, who’s clearly turned against us, and unfortunately, some people who have always been loyal also got caught in the crossfire. It was awful to witness, honestly.
Harriet has confessed that watching the show this week, after waiting months to see how her scenes turned out, was a very unpleasant experience.
It was really difficult to watch, and I got angry – something I don’t like seeing in myself. Nobody wants to lose control of their emotions and have it caught on camera.
Harriet explained that the show’s demanding schedule – filming for many days and nights in a faraway Scottish castle – really took a toll on her. She especially wished she hadn’t snapped at Roxy during breakfast.
She told The Times that her actions were completely out of character. ‘I usually wouldn’t yell at someone I’d just met, especially not over breakfast,’ she said. ‘People saw me as calm and calculated, but I always acted on feeling and intuition, not a plan.’

I just have to tell you about Harriet! She’s incredible. Can you believe she went to Oxford? And her family! Her dad was a Lord and a famous judge – it’s like something out of a movie. Naturally, she became a barrister, following right in his footsteps. It was just meant to be, honestly. She’s brilliant!
I was absolutely devastated when I heard she left law! Ten years she’d spent building her career, and then, just like that, she walked away at 32. She admitted she wasn’t thriving – she actually called herself a ‘terrible barrister,’ and it broke my heart. Apparently, she’d been struggling with alcohol, and honestly, she said her kids needed her more. It was so brave of her to be honest, and I completely understand, but I still miss seeing her in court!
She has explained that her inability to keep her cool was also a key factor in her quitting.
Honestly, I always felt she really felt things deeply – she just couldn’t hide it. She described the atmosphere as incredibly intense, full of friction, and you really had to be strong to handle it. She admitted she got really upset if she sensed something wasn’t right, or if someone wasn’t being truthful – she just couldn’t help but react.
This is also why she decided to stop drinking. She explained that alcohol made her feel out of control, which only made her anger worse.
Harriet graduated from Oxford University with an English degree in 1994 and then became a lawyer. She practiced as a barrister for nearly ten years.
Following in her father’s distinguished career, she continued the family legacy as Lord William Nimmo Smith had been a prominent Senator of the College of Justice.
He was educated at Eton and Oxford University before becoming a judge in both the Supreme Courts of Scotland and the High Court of Justiciary.
After having her children, Freddie and Eloise, Harriet decided to leave her career. Balancing motherhood with the demands of the legal profession proved difficult, and she was inspired to follow her lifelong passion for writing, fueled by her love of Agatha Christie.

She was accepted into the University of East Anglia’s creative writing Master of Arts program in 2017 and graduated with honors.
She’s now written four mystery novels, and her first book, Blood Orange, was chosen for the popular book club hosted by Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan.
Harriet is celebrating a major personal milestone alongside her professional achievements: three years of sobriety. She stopped drinking in June 2022, marking the end of a 34-year struggle with alcohol.
