Meryl Williams, known for appearing on The Traitors, has spoken openly about the hurtful abuse and online trolling she faced because of her dwarfism. She shared that having cosmetic surgery helped her regain confidence and feel ready to pursue romantic relationships.
The 29-year-old reality star first became well-known after winning the first series of a popular BBC show in 2022 with Aaron Evans and Hannah Byczkowski. They were born with achondroplasia, a type of dwarfism.
It breaks my heart to hear stories like this, but sadly, it’s something I’ve seen happen too often. This woman has bravely shared how her health condition has made her a target for really hurtful behavior – people have actually pointed and laughed at her in public, and she’s been subjected to awful online abuse. It’s a stark reminder that kindness and empathy are so important, and we all need to be more mindful of the impact our words and actions have on others.
After her team, the Traitors, won the competition, Meryl used her £33,000 prize money to undergo cosmetic surgery – a forehead reduction and breast augmentation – saying it helped her feel more confident and balanced with her appearance.
The celebrity, who has previously undergone spinal surgery in 2011 and jaw realignment in 2019, recently told The Sun, ‘Even though I’m very short, like an eight-year-old, I’m an adult and I want to feel confident and attractive.’
Meryl confessed she used to seek out negative feedback about the show on social media, driven by a strange curiosity. She soon realized, though, that doing so was actually making things worse for herself.

Even though it was difficult, she explained that she’s learned to not take hurtful comments to heart. She deals with negativity by ignoring, blocking, or distancing herself from those who are unkind, and reminding herself that abusive behavior reflects the character of the person doing the abusing, not the person receiving it.
She’s spoken about the online harassment she’s experienced, and shared that even before appearing on The Traitors, people would publicly stare at her in the street.
During an appearance on Good Morning Britain in 2023, she explained that the negative attention she receives isn’t caused by the show itself. She said she’s faced stares and unwanted attention in public even before becoming known through television, meaning the issue existed regardless of her being on TV.
I did get some negative feedback after the show, but it wasn’t new to me. Since I enjoyed my time on the show so much, I simply chose to disregard it.
She explained that while she was used to being stared at and pointed at, she hoped that by speaking out, she could challenge people’s perceptions and show them that she and others like her are capable of the same things as everyone else.
Meryl shared that her main reason for doing the BBC show was to raise awareness and hopefully shift how people think about the issue.
She explained that her main goal in appearing on the show was to highlight the fact that she’s capable of doing anything others can. She believed participating in the same challenges would demonstrate that everyone is equally able, creating a fair comparison.
People often wondered if I needed extra help or time, but I didn’t. Even in public, people assumed I wasn’t capable of doing certain things, so I wanted to prove that I could do anything everyone else can.

After getting surgery on her forehead and breasts, Meryl says she feels confident and attractive for the first time, and is now open to finding a partner.
She prefers meeting people in real life, rather than using dating apps, which she finds draining, especially for those who don’t fit typical beauty standards.
She’s hoping to find a partner who loves her for who she is. Dating as someone with dwarfism has been difficult, and she’s realized she shouldn’t settle for anything less than she deserves. While she hasn’t experienced love yet, she believes she deserves it and won’t compromise on her needs.
Meryl had her first cosmetic surgery at 16, reducing her breast size from a 28FF to a 32B. She made this decision because she experienced significant back, neck, and shoulder pain due to the large size of her breasts, which extended down to her belly button.
Although the surgery resolved her physical problems, she admitted it lowered her self-esteem. She felt her breasts had lost their shape and began wearing more modest clothing to feel comfortable.
Years after her first breast augmentation, she recently had a second procedure and is now confidently showing off her new physique in revealing clothing. She says she’s put in the effort to feel good about her body and intends to enjoy it.
She’d previously shared her desire to increase her bust size from a 32B to a 32C, explaining that weight loss over time had caused her breasts to sag and lose their firmness.
Meryl, who won the first season of the BBC show as a ‘Faithful’ alongside Aaron Evans and Hannah Byczkowski, used £7,500 of her £33,000 winnings to undergo a forehead reduction procedure.

In 2023, Meryl had a forehead reduction surgery costing £7,500. The procedure involved removing a portion of her forehead and then repositioning her scalp forward.
She disliked her forehead from a young age and used to cover it with bangs. Eventually, she saved enough money to get cosmetic surgery.
She told the Daily Mail that the procedure was quite intense – she even looked like she’d been in a fight afterward – but ultimately, she was glad she went through with it.
Last year, Meryl shared a disturbing experience: she was repeatedly verbally harassed by a group of teenagers while traveling on a train to London.
She shared her experience on TikTok, explaining that her dwarfism made her a target for bullying on a recent trip. She was upset that no one on the bus intervened to help her when she was being harassed.
Meryl described a disturbing train journey where passengers repeatedly mocked her. They made cruel comments about her height, calling her a ‘midget’ and suggesting she needed a ladder to board the train. They also filmed and photographed her without her consent, and made offensive remarks about her hands, then laughed at her.
Everything happened within just ten minutes. I’m completely alone right now, and even though people nearby saw and heard it all, no one has offered any help or said a word. I’m at a loss for what to do.
She explained that this condition is very visible – people notice it immediately, and that makes you vulnerable.
