As a member of the Traitors cast, Jade Scott has become good at keeping secrets.
I’ve been following this PhD student on BBC One, and it’s amazing to watch her compete! What many people don’t know, though, is that she went through a truly devastating loss as a teenager – a family tragedy she’s kept private while pursuing her dreams.
In August 2018, Ms. Scott’s mother, Maggie Fung, and her seven-year-old half-sister tragically died in a murder-suicide at their home in Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong, according to the Daily Mail.
Firefighters discovered a mother and daughter dead in their apartment after a concerned housekeeper alerted authorities. The two were found unconscious, embracing on a bed, and were declared deceased at the scene. A suicide note was also found inside the apartment.
Ms. Fung, age 44, had recently gone through a breakup, and people believed she was deeply upset by it.
Ms. Fung, an employee at a medical clinic, had sent her domestic worker home for a vacation because she and her daughter were planning a trip abroad. However, when the worker returned to Hong Kong two days ago, she couldn’t reach Ms. Fung and believed she was still traveling.

Paramedics determined that both the mother and daughter had been deceased for a while, possibly around a week.
During Friday’s episode, the Warwick University student shared that her mother and half-sibling had died following her parents’ divorce. After the divorce, she moved back to Hong Kong, where she later had another child with her father, Stuart, who works in finance.
During a dinner party hosted by Claudia Winkleman for the final eight contestants, 26-year-old Ms. Scott shared what she would do with the prize money.
She expressed her desire to purchase a home. Her parents separated when she was seven years old, and her mother returned to Hong Kong after that.
After having a child, she and the child tragically passed away in 2018. It was a devastating loss, and I’ve spent the years since then working hard to heal and rebuild my life. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made, and now I’m hoping to find a place to finally call home.
Ms. Scott, a researcher focusing on women’s health and pregnancy, said she was deeply affected by the news, as she was close to the person involved. She described it as a shock.
Our parents influence who we are. I had to rediscover myself after a difficult time. I’m naturally cautious about letting people get close, and it takes me a while to feel comfortable around new people. This can sometimes make me seem distant at first.

Ms. Scott has a delicate tattoo of Ginkgo leaves on her arm, which many believe is a tribute to her mother. Ginkgo leaves are often seen as symbols of love and resilience.
After hearing Ms. Scott share her incredibly difficult experience, fellow player Rachel Duffy confessed that it was tough to strategize next, knowing the personal struggles everyone at the table had revealed.
Ms. Scott’s father, Stuart, used to be a top executive at HSBC in charge of currency trading. In 2016, he and a coworker, Mark Johnson, were accused of illegally using confidential information to make a profit from a large $3.5 billion currency transaction.
He firmly denied the accusations, and after a two-year legal fight, he successfully prevented being sent to the United States.
He was initially accused of manipulating foreign currency exchange rates, facing potentially 30 years in prison on each of the 11 charges. However, the U.S. prosecutors dismissed the case in August 2023, and he was found not guilty.
Ms. Scott is dating Sam Brown Light and often shares photos of them together on Instagram. Sam owns a company called FEM, which creates and sells nutritional bars specifically designed for women.
As a lifestyle and social dynamics observer, I’ve been watching ‘The Traitors’ closely, and I have to say, Maddy Scott is really holding her own in series four! It’s fascinating to me that despite playing a Faithful, she’s become a major suspect. It just goes to show how easily trust can be eroded in a game like that, and how perceptions can be so misleading. She’s definitely one to watch!
The topic of her came up again during last night’s discussion, but ultimately, Dr. Ellie Buckley, age 33, received the most votes and was eliminated from Ardross Castle.

The psychologist became emotional while trying to explain her side of things, and her closing remarks left everyone stunned.
Dr. Buckley shared that she’s a member of the Faithful group and is dating Ross Garshong, age 37, who was previously eliminated from the BBC show.
Before I leave, I need to tell you something. I didn’t come here by myself – I came with my boyfriend, Ross!
Jessie Roux was tragically killed by the Traitors, reducing the number of contestants remaining to just eight.
In the final moments of the episode, Traitors Stephen and Mrs. Duffy had to choose a Faithful player to receive the dagger.
