The Toxic Avenger Hits Digital and Fights for Charity

The movie will soon be available for wider viewing, first on digital platforms and then on DVD and Blu-ray. It stars Peter Dinklage and Elijah Wood.

Troma Entertainment has announced that the new *Toxic Avenger* movie is now available to rent or buy on demand. Physical copies – including DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD versions – will be released on October 28th. An exclusive 4K UHD + Blu-ray edition will also be available on Amazon. This film, written and directed by Macon Blair, is a reimagining of the original *Toxic Avenger* series that began in 1984.

The movie features Peter Dinklage as Winston Gooze, also known as the Toxic Avenger. He’s a grieving janitor who, after being dumped into toxic waste and left for dead, is reborn as a superhero. Emerging from the sludge, Winston gains incredible powers and uses them to deliver harsh justice to those who deserve it.

Originally made in 2021, *The Toxic Avenger* faced several delays before finally premiering at Fantastic Fest in 2023. Eventually, Cineverse Pictures acquired the distribution rights, allowing the film to be released in theaters on August 29th. While it earned $3.3 million in ticket sales, the movie has been very well-received by both critics and viewers.

Currently, Rotten Tomatoes gives the film an 82% approval rating, and audiences also give it a positive score. But even more significantly, *The Toxic Avenger* has already eliminated around $15 million in medical debt – a major burden for many people. Through a continuing partnership with Cineverse and the Undue Medical Debt organization, every $10 donated helps wipe out $1,000 in medical debt for those who need assistance.

The Toxic Avenger Took on a Real-Life Villain

Undue Medical Debt uses donations to buy large amounts of medical debt from hospitals and collection agencies for a very small fraction of its value. This debt belongs to individuals who earn up to four times the federal poverty level or whose medical bills represent at least 5% of their yearly income. For every dollar donated, they can eliminate, on average, $100 in medical debt that people can’t afford to pay.

People can’t directly apply for medical debt relief through this program. Instead, those who receive assistance are notified by mail – in an envelope with the Undue logo – that their medical debt has been fully or partially eliminated. This initiative powerfully demonstrates how passionate fans can be mobilized to create positive change that extends beyond entertainment.

You can now download *The Toxic Avenger* digitally from certain online stores. If you prefer a physical copy, it will be available at all major retailers on October 28th.
