As a horror enthusiast who’s seen my fair share of spine-tingling tales, I must say that 2024 has been an exceptional year for the genre, particularly with the stellar offerings from the esteemed A24 studio. Here are three standout horror films from their repertoire that have left a lasting impression on me this year.
2024 has been an outstanding year for horror movies, with notable contributions from companies such as Neon and A24, renowned for distributing critically-acclaimed independent films. Therefore, as the year draws to a close, we’d like to highlight three exceptional horror movies released by A24 in 2024 that you should definitely check out.
It’s worth mentioning that the horror film titled “The Front Room” featuring Brandy and Kathryn Hunter, despite impressive performances, especially from Kathryn who delivers a captivating, scene-stealing role, didn’t quite make the cut due to its mediocre script. It doesn’t reach the level of quality needed to overshadow its weak points nor does it become a beloved camp classic because of its lack of humor. Additionally, A24 distributed successful thrillers like “Civil War” and “Love Lies Bleeding“, but since neither can be categorized as “horror”, they were not included in this list.
3. MaXXXine
Although it’s the most debated addition to the X series, which comprises the 2022 slasher X and the prequel film Pearl, MaXXXine remains a unique horror production that provides a fitting conclusion to Maxine Minx’s storyline, portrayed by Mia Goth.

He welcomes two Mormon missionaries, Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East, into his home, only to subject them to twisted activities designed to challenge their religious beliefs. Despite earning a lower overall critical rating compared to the other films on the list, I feel that Jane Schoenbrun’s movie should not be undervalued due to its stunning beauty and profound impact. In my opinion, it deserves more recognition as one of this year’s most relevant and significant stories.
