The Thursday Murder Club confirms earlier UK cinema release
Enthusiasts of Richard Osman’s “The Thursday Murder Club” have the opportunity to watch the movie version in theaters during a special, temporary screening.
Before premiering on Netflix, the film will first be shown in UK cinemas starting from August 22 for approximately a week. After that, it’ll move to Netflix and can be streamed from August 28.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t wait to dive into the highly anticipated crime comedy based on Chris Columbus’ direction and the first book from the beloved Thursday Murder Club series!
What to Read Next
In the narrative, I find myself among a quartet of retirees, residing in the imaginative retirement community of Coopers Chase nestled in the scenic countryside of Kent.
Eager to delve into unsolved mysteries, the group stumbles upon an authentic case, working closely with local authorities to crack the crime.
The detective team, made up of Elizabeth (played by Helen Mirren – a former spy), Joyce Meadowcroft (a retired nurse, portrayed by Celia Imrie), Ibrahim Arif (an ex-psychiatrist, played by Ben Kingsley) and Ron Ritchie (Pierce Brosnan, who previously led a union), are all senior citizens.
As a gamer, I can tell you that the ensemble features Naomi Ackie playing PC Donna De Freitas, Daniel Mays stepping into the role of DCI Chris Hudson (from Line of Duty), Jonathan Pryce portraying Elizabeth’s spouse, Stephen, and Tom Ellis, known for his role as Lucifer, taking on the character of Ron’s son, Jason.
If you’re pondering if this cast could possibly shine any brighter, the answer is indeed so! Alongside Doctor Who’s David Tennant and Richard E Grant, we have Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Geoff Bell, Paul Freeman, Sarah Niles, and Ingrid Oliver in the film as well.
The movie was jointly written by Columbus and Katy Brand (of “Good Luck To You, Leo Grande”) as well as Suzanne Heathcote (from “Killing Eve”). It’s also co-produced by Amblin Entertainment, a studio owned by Steven Spielberg.
Regarding alterations in his novel “The Thursday Murder Club”, Osman stated: “The film plot is primarily derived from the initial book, but it isn’t identical, as adjustments are necessary for authenticity.
Beginning August 22nd, the movie “Thursday Murder Club” will be shown in select cinemas for a limited run. Starting August 28th, it will become available on Netflix.
The inaugural print edition of Digital Spy’s magazine has arrived! Purchase “British Comedy Legends” from your local newsstands or online retailers for only £3.99.
