Although June Osborne’s story concluded in The Handmaid’s Tale, she still plays a role in the sequel series, The Testaments. The show has now officially revealed what happened to June after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, where she and the other Handmaids successfully freed Boston and killed all the Commanders who controlled it.
As the characters experience a moment of celebration, June visits the ruins of the Waterford home and starts recording her account of life as a Handmaid in Gilead. This act mirrors the beginning of her journey and highlights her unwavering determination to find her daughter, Hannah. Despite this hopeful action, it remained uncertain whether she would ever return.
The story of The Testaments has started, and June remains involved. The first episode features a flashback of June observing a new main character, Daisy, in a Canadian coffee shop. This scene takes place before Daisy joins the Gilead academy that June’s daughter, Hannah (now known as Agnes), attends.
The third episode delves deeper into June’s backstory, including a flashback scene with Daisy. This scene shows June bringing Daisy into Mayday, highlighting Daisy’s key role in the fight against Gilead and revealing June’s reasons for doing so. Even though June isn’t the central character anymore, this episode firmly establishes her continued importance to the story.

The groundwork for June’s return was laid at the conclusion of The Handmaid’s Tale. Although Boston was freed, her daughter Hannah remained in Gilead, indicating June’s struggle wasn’t finished. Early reviews for The Testaments are overwhelmingly positive, earning it an 86% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 35 reviews. The show’s strong performance is largely thanks to the compelling performances of its lead actresses, Agnes and Daisy. Like the original series, The Testaments doesn’t hold back in portraying the brutality and horrors of Gilead.
Things are looking up, though. June is now a key member of Mayday, still working to rescue her daughter, and that’s given her a stronger advantage. Daisy seems poised to play a vital part in this effort, and her work at the school will likely bring her closer to Agnes and the overall rescue mission.

There’s a chance we haven’t seen the last of her, and she may reappear as the story unfolds.
In The Testaments, we learn June is not only alive but still actively working to overthrow Gilead and rescue her daughter. While the extent of her direct involvement in future events is currently unknown, her reappearance, link to Daisy, and ongoing efforts to find Hannah confirm she will remain a significant figure in the series.
