The Sweet Comment Robert Downey Jr. Made About Fellow Avenger Scarlett Johansson As She Prepped To Make Her Directorial Debut
There are numerous talented actors in Hollywood who have also excelled as directors, and Scarlett Johansson might soon be included in that group. Known for her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over a decade, Johansson recently made her directorial debut with “Eleanor The Great“, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last week. Although it’s yet to be determined if the film will make it onto the 2025 movie schedule, it’s delightful to see the supportive words shared by Johansson’s MCU co-star, Robert Downey Jr, about her directorial debut.
Initially, Downey and Johansson collaborated on the movie “Iron Man 2“, eventually appearing together in a total of six Marvel Cinematic Universe films. These movies are available for streaming using a Disney+ subscription. Here’s what Tony Stark and the future Doctor Doom had to share with Vanity Fair about her outspoken nature:
Downey and Johansson initially teamed up in “Iron Man 2“, later starring together in six Marvel Cinematic Universe productions (all accessible via Disney+). Here’s what Tony Stark and the future Doctor Doom had to express regarding her outspoken nature to Vanity Fair:
There’s a leadership quality inherent in everything she does.
As a devoted cinephile, I’ve been captivated by Scarlett Johansson’s impressive Hollywood journey, dating back to the 2011 documentary “The Whale.” However, her career has truly soared in recent years with her role as Black Widow, “Fly Me to the Moon,” and the latest release, “Thunderbolts.” Robert Downey Jr., a fellow industry veteran, can’t help but be impressed by her accomplishments, on-screen and off. It fills me with excitement to imagine a future collaboration between these two powerhouses outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Maybe they’ll even executive produce something together – here’s hoping!
Downey’s comment was included in a profile that also saw Johansson talking how the studios dropped the ball on releasing fellow MCU star Sebastian Stan’s The Apprentice and what was difficult about shooting her interrogation scene in The Avengers, among other topics. She also shared new thoughts on A.I. misuse following her statement in February decrying a video that used her likeness to advocate against Kanye West’s antisemitic sentiments.
Fans of the actress may not know when she’ll step into the director’s chair, but they can look forward to seeing her frequently on the big screen in the near future. Johansson is part of a large cast appearing in the movie “The Phoenician Scheme,” which hits theaters this weekend. Following that, she returns as the main character in “Jurassic World Rebirth” set for release on July 2nd.
Regarding the film titled “Eleanor The Great“, it features June Squibb portraying a 94-year-old woman from Florida who unexpectedly bonds with a 19-year-old in New York City. Squibb expressed her admiration for Scarlett Johansson’s directing skills, stating that she was “astonished by how open” Johansson was during the filming process. I am eager to see the completed project when it becomes available for public viewing.
