We know Hollywood stars for their popular movies, music, and style, but surprisingly, many have hidden talents that would amaze their fans.

Many celebrities have surprising talents beyond their main careers, like performing magic or playing the piano at a professional level, demonstrating they’re truly gifted in multiple areas.

Jennifer Tilly 

Jennifer Tilly is known for her acting, including an Oscar nomination for Bullets Over Broadway, but she’s also a highly skilled poker player and often shines at the table.

The 67-year-old actress has secretly been a successful poker player for years, winning millions in tournaments.

She’s even won a World Series of Poker bracelet, which is the highest honor a poker player can receive besides money.

In a 2012 interview with NY Mag, Tilly compared playing poker to taking drugs.  

She explained that it begins with small bets – twenty-five or fifty cents at the kitchen table – then gradually increases to a dollar, two dollars, but the desire for excitement just keeps growing.

I’m really passionate about theater and acting, but I took a break from it for about eight years. I got completely caught up in poker and thought it was everything for a while.

Hugh Laurie

Hugh Laurie was once recognized by Guinness World Records as the most-viewed leading actor on TV, but his real passion is actually music.

Hugh Laurie, known for his role in the TV show House, has also performed as a musician throughout Europe, including concerts in Russia, Germany, and Scotland.

In a 2013 interview with The Guardian, Laurie admitted that he prefers music to acting.

He explained that creating music, particularly pleasing sounds, gives him a unique satisfaction that he doesn’t experience through acting – a feeling he believes is difficult for anyone to replicate.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman is known for her role as the brilliant astrophysicist Jane Foster in the Thor movies, and it seems she’s equally smart in her personal life.

In addition to being a Harvard graduate, she’s also published research in scientific journals.

The actress has shared that her psychology degree is constantly useful in her work.

She explained that she often draws on things she learned in college or from previous research when analyzing scripts. For example, while reading a script, she might recognize behaviors that suggest a character could have a condition like bipolar disorder or dissociative identity disorder.

Neil Patrick Harris

Besides being famous for his roles in popular TV shows and movies, Neil Patrick Harris is also a skilled magician.

Oh my gosh, you HAVE to know about him! He’s not just some magician, he’s an incredible illusionist, seriously the best. And get this – he used to run the Academy of Magical Arts, the people who are basically in charge of the Magic Castle in Hollywood! Can you believe it? It’s like he is magic!

Harris, now 52, has been a magician all his life. He’s best known for a memorable appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1990, where he impressed the host with his magic.

Pierce Brosnan

As James Bond, Pierce Brosnan performed all kinds of crazy stunts on screen. 

And it turns out that the English actor also has a daredevil streak that rivals 007. 

Brosnan, 72, is a fire-eater who learned the unique skill in the late 1960s at a theatre company.

At the time, he was trying to expand his repertoire as an actor with some specialized talents. 

Following the release of Goldeneye, Pierce Brosnan demonstrated his fire-eating skills on The Muppets, but unfortunately suffered an injury during the performance.

He described it as incredibly potent, saying that when he used it, the substance surged back into his mouth, causing it to swell up and develop blisters that lasted throughout the performance. He shared this story in a 2012 interview.

Vanilla Ice

After his music career slowed down in the early 1990s, the rapper – known as Robert Van Winkle – started focusing on jet skiing and motocross.

By 1995, Van Winkle had become a top jet ski racer, ranking sixth globally, and secured a significant sponsorship from Kawasaki.

In the early 2000s, he also began to gain recognition in the Motocross scene, even appearing as a playable character in the PlayStation game, Championship Motocross.

Besides his careers in music and sports, Van Winkle also renovates houses. He even had his own home improvement show on HGTV that lasted for nine seasons.
