Industry forecasts from Box Office Pro suggest the new animated sequel will likely earn between $145 million and $160 million during its opening weekend in North America. Over the five-day launch period, estimates rise to between $160 million and $175 million.

If current estimates are accurate, the new movie could perform as well as, or even better than, the first Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned $146.4 million in its opening weekend in the U.S. in 2023.

The movie will be released in theaters on April 1, 2026, and is expected to be one of the year’s biggest releases.

A Tough Benchmark To Beat
