This story contains spoilers for “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.”
The beloved Princess Peach returns for a new journey in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” joined by the people of her kingdom and two plumbers from New York!
The new Super Mario Bros. Movie, now playing in theaters, brings back Princess Peach, Mario, Luigi, and Toad with both new and recognizable characters. Together, they embark on a fun, family-friendly adventure that takes them into outer space to stop another one of Bowser’s schemes.

Brian Tyler, the composer for ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie,’ shared details on how he included music from the original video games in the film’s soundtrack.
As a huge fan of the first movie, I was so excited to see Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic back directing! “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” really expands the cinematic Nintendo universe, bringing in some amazing new characters. We finally get a proper introduction to Rosalina and those adorable Lumas, plus Bowser’s son, Bowser Jr., is a great addition. And they didn’t stop there! Yoshi is in, of course, alongside the awesome Fox McCloud and even some real blasts from the past – I was thrilled to spot Mr. Game & Watch, one of Nintendo’s very first characters!
These introductions, of course, don’t stop when the film’s main story ends.
Similar to the first movie, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” has two extra scenes that play after the credits. The first one, shown midway through the credits, features a popular character from “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” The second scene, which appears after all the credits have finished, introduces another member of the Nintendo royal family.
The mid-credits scene is justice for Lumalee
I absolutely loved Lumalee in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”! Even though he was Bowser’s prisoner, his funny, surprisingly dark little lines just instantly won me over. It’s a shame he wasn’t a big part of the main story in “Super Mario Galaxy,” but honestly, that mid-credits scene he popped up in? Total scene-stealer! He’s such a charming little star.
The extra scene happens after the main movie ends, at the prison where Bowser and Bowser Jr. are being held. As Fox walks toward his ship and hints at a possible sequel or a new ‘Star Fox’ game by saying he’s “heading home,” viewers get a quick look at what life will be like for Bowser and his son in the near future.
Peace talks are unlikely, as their guard is Lumalee, who was once held captive by Bowser. Even in a guard’s uniform, Lumalee hasn’t seemed to change her perspective at all.
As the Blue Luma famously stated in the first “Mario” movie: “Life is sad, prison is sad, life in prison is very, very sad.” Lumalee will determine just how difficult things become for the Bowsers.
The second post-credits scene introduces a new princess
The extra scene at the end of “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” hints at what might happen in a possible sequel.
The action returns to the Gateway Galaxy, where the playful, thieving monkey Ukiki is at it again, attempting to steal from someone. This time, however, Princess Daisy intervenes and stops him.
Daisy first appeared in the 1989 Game Boy game, “Super Mario Land,” where, like Peach in the original “Super Mario Bros.,” she was the princess Mario needed to save. Since then, she’s become a consistent character in Nintendo’s “Mario” games, appearing as a playable character in popular series like “Mario Kart,” “Mario Party,” and “Super Smash Bros.,” and most recently in “Super Mario Wonder.”
Even though Daisy doesn’t speak in the movie, her character in the video game is known for being lively and spirited.
This quick look at Daisy suggests we haven’t seen everything the Mario movies have to offer. Now, fans will have to be patient and see if a third film gets the green light.
