The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has already set an all-time record after only one day of release

Just one day after its release, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has broken box office records with a remarkably successful opening. It’s achieved several worldwide milestones and nearly reached even more.

The new Super Mario Bros. Wonder game, inspired by the classic Super Mario Galaxy games on the Wii, earned $34.5 million in the United States on its first day, April 1st. It also brought in $33.9 million internationally, for a total worldwide opening day of $68.4 million.

This film has had the largest opening weekend of 2026 so far, surpassing Project Hail Mary. However, we’re more interested in looking at overall record-breaking numbers, not just this year’s.

According to Deadline, The Super Mario Bros. Movie had the biggest Wednesday opening of any film released in April in the U.S.

This movie marks record-breaking openings for Illumination’s parent company, Universal. It’s Universal’s biggest release ever in Mexico, the most successful animated movie opening in Germany, and achieved the same record in Austria.
