The Super Mario Bros. Movie is coming out sooner than expected, and a new trailer just dropped! It gives fans their first glimpse of some favorite Nintendo characters joining Mario and Luigi on their cinematic journey.
The latest video reveals Mario and Luigi exploring a desert town reminiscent of the Sand Kingdom from Super Mario Odyssey. Inside a tomb – set to the iconic ‘Underground Theme’ music – they use their Fire Flowers to light their way while pursuing a frightening creature.
The monster everyone fears is actually Yoshi, the cute and constantly hungry little dinosaur! Later, we see him teaming up with the heroes to battle Bowser Jr.’s forces. Yoshi was briefly shown at the end of the first movie, hinting at his appearance.

We now know the film will be released on April 1st in the UK, the US, and many other countries – and it’s a confirmed date, not an April Fool’s joke!
The release date for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been adjusted. In the US and most countries, it will now premiere on April 1st, 2026, a week earlier than originally planned. Japan will see the film on April 24th, 2026, with other regions releasing the movie at various points throughout April.
So, I’m really excited because the same team who made the first movie – Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic as directors – are back! Plus, Matthew Fogel wrote the script again, which is awesome because I loved what he did last time.
The voice cast for the film includes Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Anya Taylor-Joy, along with new additions Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. and Brie Larson as Rosalina.
Inspired by the 2007 Wii game, the story follows Mario and his friends as they journey into space to stop Bowser Jr. and his evil scheme.
Both Galaxy and its 2010 follow-up are critically acclaimed games, ranking among the top 10 highest-rated of all time on Metacritic. They’ve both been recently updated and released for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be released on 1 April.
