The Studio Behind Coraline Ends Longest 7-Year Release Hiatus With New Epic Fantasy Adaptation

Laika, the animation studio known for Coraline, has announced the release date for its next movie, the fantasy film Wildwood, marking the end of their production break.

Travis Knight is directing a stop-motion film called Laika’s Wildwood, based on the novels by Colin Meloy, with a screenplay by Chris Butler. The movie tells the story of a girl who bravely enters a magical forest to rescue her little brother, where she meets both helpful friends and dangerous enemies along the way.

Laika Studios’ new movie, Wildwood, will be shown in U.S. theaters on October 23rd, thanks to a partnership with Fathom Entertainment. Filmnation Entertainment will distribute the film internationally. This is Laika’s first release since The Missing Link came out in October 2019. Laika is also known for creating the acclaimed films Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) and ParaNorman (2012).
