The Stranger Things cast were “sobbing uncontrollably” over series finale
As a dedicated Stranger Things fan with over a decade of binge-watching under my belt, I can confidently say that the final season of this beloved series is shaping up to be a heartwarming and emotional rollercoaster. The recent insights from David Harbour, our beloved Hopper, have only fueled my anticipation.
Stranger Things, one of Netflix’s most radiant treasures, has been captivating audiences for nearly a decade now. The paranormal sci-fi series is wrapping up its production for the final season, which is expected to air in 2025. As filming approaches its end, the cast members are experiencing a whirlwind of feelings, and here’s a sneak peek into the atmosphere on set, as shared by David Harbour, who plays Hopper.
On the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Harbour admitted that as much as he adores the final season, his deep connection with the show often leads him to be critical, aiming to make it even better. As he puts it, “I’m quite attached to the series, so I have firm views. And these might not align with yours if you’re a fan of the show.
He openly expressed his tendency to become strongly upset over certain decisions within the series, and he isn’t shy about voicing his concerns. In essence, Harbour shows a strong, impassioned attachment towards the series, as he also admitted, “I can be quite critical of this show.
Nevertheless, his praises are scattered rather than frequent. Intriguingly, he declared that the fifth season’s eighth episode, often referred to as the series finale, stands out as the finest among all episodes. “The way they concluded the story was nothing short of exceptional,” he said.
The end of this episode when we were reading it — just us reading it — about halfway through, people started crying. Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people. Noah Schnapp being my favorite.
Ten years have passed since then, and upon revisiting the concept, I must say it has been executed exceptionally well, both in its execution and aesthetic appeal,” he summarized. “This is an outstanding episode that you are sure to enjoy, and it’s part of a fantastic season.
In the last episode of season 4, our group found themselves in a precarious predicament. Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) met his end in the Upside Down, and Max (Sadie Sink) ended up in the hospital due to an encounter with the cross-dimensional murderer Vecna. By the finale’s end, our team stared out as the troubled town of Hawkins, Indiana, began to be contaminated by the horrifying Upside Down landscape. The ominous presence of Vecna remains a significant danger.
It’s expected that “Stranger Things 5” might debut on Netflix as early as 2025, though an official release date hasn’t been announced yet. Given that the last episode was released in May of 2022, we could potentially be waiting for three years before the final season starts streaming. However, if David Harbour is any indication, it seems like the wait will prove to be worthwhile.
