Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield’s cause of death has been revealed.
John Squire, the guitarist and founding member of The Stone Roses, passed away peacefully at his home in Heaton Moor, Stockport, after struggling with emphysema and recent respiratory problems.
Gary reportedly died after suffering a seizure and collapsing. Despite efforts to revive him by paramedics who were called to the scene, he passed away.
Mani passed away on November 20th at the age of 63. The cause of his death was recently announced, just before his funeral, which will be held in Manchester on December 22nd.
His cause of death was first reported by the Manchester Evening News.
Mani’s brother, Greg Mounfield, recently confirmed the details of his sibling’s funeral.



Mani will have a service at Manchester Cathedral at 11am, followed by a private committal.
Greg announced on Facebook that a service to honor Mani will be held at Manchester Cathedral (Victoria Street, Manchester, M3 1SX) on Monday, December 22nd, at 11:30 AM.
Greg sadly announced the death of his brother, Gary Mani Mounfield, writing that he was heartbroken by the loss.
He added in the comments section: ‘Reunited with his beautiful wife Imelda.’
The Stone Roses shared a tribute on X, posting an old photo of Gary and bassist Mani. They expressed their deep sadness at Mani’s passing, calling him a wonderful brother, an incredible bass player, and a cherished friend.
Lead singer Ian Brown, 62, took to his own page to share his tribute: ‘Rest In Peace Mani’.
His death came less than a week after he announced an intimate in-conversation tour of the UK.
The musician first became famous as a member of The Stone Roses. After the band broke up in 1996, he joined Primal Scream.
However, in 2011, he revealed he was leaving the band to rejoin The Stone Roses for a major stadium tour.
