The Stone of Madness Brings its Goya-Inspired Escape Story to Xbox in January 2025
As a gamer who’s weathered countless digital trials and tribulations, I can’t help but feel a shiver of anticipation at the announcement of “The Stone of Madness” by Tripwire Presents and The Game Kitchen. With their past work on Blasphemous and its sequel, they’ve proven they know how to weave a tale that’s as hauntingly beautiful as it is challenging.
In January 2025, Tripwire Presents and game developers The Game Kitchen (creators of Blasphemous and its sequel) will release The Stone of Madness. This title promises an engaging tactical stealth adventure where players assume the roles of prisoners trying to execute a daring escape.
In the late 18th century, a group of five imperfect inmates found themselves imprisoned within the walls of a Spanish asylum, seeking a means of escape. Faced with their darkest fears and teetering on the brink of insanity and hopelessness, they collaborate to devise an exit strategy. With their freedom at stake, each of these unjustly incarcerated individuals must utilize different resources and subtle hints to navigate their way out.
In addition to staying undetected to dodge the Inquisition’s punishment, you will also need to handle each character’s personal issues such as past traumas and fears, ensuring their psychological well-being to prevent exacerbating traits like anxiety, memory loss, or sudden aggressive outbursts. There are two distinct escape routes available, each with unique goals and narratives attached.
Showcasing an artwork style reminiscent of Francisco De Goya’s haunting masterpieces, The Stone of Madness is set to launch for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms on January 28th, 2025.
