The Split star’s new reboot of classic ITV detective series is missing one thing in first look
The initial glimpse of the new adaptation of the timeless mystery series Maigret has been revealed, yet it seems incomplete.
George Simenon’s cherished book collection has been transformed for television screens on numerous occasions throughout the years. One such adaptation is a two-season drama produced by ITV, featuring Rowan Atkinson portraying the French detective.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming role for Parisian Chief Inspector Jules Maigret will be played by none other than Benjamin Wainwright, star of “The Split.” In an exclusive sneak peek, he can be seen donning a shirt and coat, with the iconic Eiffel Tower gracefully standing in the background.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but point out that this fresh take on the character has transported him from the early 20th century straight to our modern times. That means no more iconic pipe or hat for him!
In the upcoming series, Maigret is portrayed as a fresh, unorthodox detective eager to make his mark, who is on his way up in the Police Judiciaire, becoming more recognized.
As a keen enthusiast, I can’t wait to delve into the extravagant high-society realm of opulent hotels and grand mansions, the bustling neighborhood eateries and watering holes of the middle class, and the clandestine hideouts where the underworld’s professionals ply their trade.
The summary notes that Maigret is particularly skilled at understanding our reasons for action, not due to exceptional intelligence or unique techniques, but rather because he pays close attention – it’s more about his ability to empathize with people than it is about solving crimes.
The ensemble also features Stefanie Martini from “The Gold,” Reda Elazouar known for “Sex Education,” Blake Harrison of “The Inbetweeners,” Kerrie Hayes recognized in “The Responder,” Shaniqua Okwok, a cast member in “It’s a Sin,” Rob Kazinsky, who starred in “Captain Marvel,” and Nathalie Armin from “Showtrial.”

Apart from the main characters, we can spot Stefanie Martini, previously seen in “The Gold,” Reda Elazouar famed for “Sex Education,” Blake Harrison known for “The Inbetweeners,” Kerrie Hayes who appeared in “The Responder,” Shaniqua Okwok from “It’s a Sin,” Rob Kazinsky of “Captain Marvel” fame, and Nathalie Armin, a familiar face from “Showtrial.
In the U.S., a television show crafted by Patrick Harbinson is set to be broadcast on PBS Masterpiece. At this point, a British network for its release hasn’t been announced.
Up until his passing in 1989, Georges Simenon authored 75 novels and 28 short tales revolving around Inspector Jules Maigret. Subsequent screen interpretations have featured actors such as Rupert Davies and Michael Gambon portraying the character.
Maigret will air on PBS Masterpiece in the US. A UK broadcaster has not been confirmed yet.
