The official trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is finally available, and it shows Spider-Man battling several villains from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming sequel. Fans have eagerly awaited this trailer for months.
Fans are incredibly excited for the next Marvel movie, Phase 6, especially because Peter Parker (Tom Holland) will be battling some classic villains from the comics. Along with some new faces, a familiar character many fans have waited a long time to see will also be returning.
Mac Gargan’s Scorpion Has a New Suit in Brand New Day
Michael Mando first played Mac Gargan in Spider-Man: Homecoming, with a scene after the credits hinting he’d return as the Scorpion. It took nine years, but in August 2025, it was confirmed Mando would reprise the role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The first trailer for Brand New Day shows him fully becoming the classic Marvel villain.
The Scorpion is a classic Spider-Man villain, first appearing in Marvel Comics in 1964. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Mac Gargan initially bought weapons from the Vulture, but was caught by Spider-Man and the FBI. Now, he’s operating as the Scorpion, and Marvel Studios is finally developing this storyline after hinting at it for nearly a decade – which is great news for fans!
Boomerang Is a Decades-Old Spider-Man Villain in Marvel Comics
Fred Myers was a talented baseball player who turned into the villain Boomerang, a heavily armed assassin working for the Secret Empire in Marvel Comics. He’s fought Spider-Man in the comics and even teamed up with Peter Parker during the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline. This history could make Boomerang a particularly significant character in a new movie, potentially being the reason for Hulk’s unstable return.
I’m still waiting to find out who’s going to play Boomerang in the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. From what I’ve heard, he’s not going to be a major player – more of a small-time problem for Spider-Man before the big showdown. But it’s interesting because in the comics, Boomerang has teamed up with some seriously dangerous groups like the Masters of Evil and the Sinister Six. So, his appearance in the MCU could be setting the stage for those villain teams to show up eventually, which would be awesome!
The Hand Returns in Spider-Man: Brand New Day 9 Years After Daredevil Season 2
With Marvel Television’s Defenders Saga now officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, details about the Hand are resurfacing before its appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In the Defenders Saga, the Hand was a dangerous enemy of K’un-Lun, constantly seeking dragon DNA to extend their lives. While led by five powerful leaders, the Hand is most known for its army of highly skilled and frightening ninjas, who were featured in the Brand New Day trailer.
The Hand, a powerful and influential Marvel organization, appeared to be destroyed with its leaders killed during the events of the 2017 series The Defenders. Its reappearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is unexpected, but it will help establish Spider-Man as a hero who focuses on street-level crime in New York City, similar to characters like Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), and in line with the spirit of the Defenders. It’s exciting to have this group back in the Marvel universe.
Frank Castle’s Punisher Appears in Brand New Day Before His Own Special Presentation
Jon Bernthal is reprising his role as the Punisher (Frank Castle) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again. He’s slated to appear in even more projects, including the 2026 film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a standalone special presentation, and potentially Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. While some fans were concerned about how Marvel’s typically PG-13 ratings would accommodate the Punisher’s violent and often profane nature, the trailer for Brand New Day suggests his team-up with Spider-Man will be a great fit.
At the end of Season 1 of Born Again, Frank Castle was shown escaping by breaking a man’s arm. His upcoming special presentation will focus on a conflict with the Gnucci Crime Family, headed by Ma Gnucci, but before that, he’ll face off against some lesser Spider-Man villains. Brand New Day is anticipated to be the Punisher’s next appearance in the MCU, and fans are eager to see what happens.
Tarantula’s Brand New Day Scene Is Taken Straight From Marvel Comics
Anton Miguel Rodriguez’s Tarantula debuted in Marvel Comics in 1974, specifically in The Amazing Spider-Man #134. A fight scene between Tarantula and Spider-Man, taking place on the side of a metal structure, was directly recreated in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The inclusion of Tarantula in the movie trailer shows director Destin Daniel Cretton is staying true to the original comic books when developing his version of Spider-Man. Over the years, there have been several versions of the Tarantula character, and they’ve often been portrayed as Spider-Man’s opponents.
The upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to feature both Tarantula and Boomerang as relatively minor villains Spider-Man will face while operating as a neighborhood hero. This approach mirrors a pattern seen at Marvel Studios, where they hint at heroes’ full careers without fully exploring them. We’re excited to see Tarantula included, as he’s a strong Spider-Man villain, even if only in a supporting role, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
A Hooded Figure Could Be Sadie Sink’s Secret Spider-Man: Brand New Day Character
Though Spider-Man: Brand New Day features several villains, both familiar and new, one appears to be the main antagonist—potentially played by Sadie Sink (known for Stranger Things and The Whale). Many fans believe this role could lead to the introduction of the X-Men and mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Sink possibly portraying Jean Grey. Starting her story as a villain would be a clever move.
The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day features a character who can enter other people’s minds, and many fans believe this is Jean Grey. She’s also shown as a prisoner wearing a distinctive green and yellow hooded costume, adding to the speculation. It seems like Marvel is starting to introduce key mutant characters before the official X-Men launch, and portraying Jean Grey as a villain could explain the public’s fear of mutants and justify the Department of Damage Control’s efforts to capture them.
Fans have suggested Maya Sink for several roles, like Black Cat, Firestar, and Gwen Stacy. However, many believe she’s best suited to play Jean Grey, which could significantly impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie could be crucial in introducing the X-Men to the MCU. While the trailer only showed a brief look at the villains Spider-Man will face, we’re excited to see him return!
