The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires adaptation in the works at HBO

As a hardcore horror gaming enthusiast with a soft spot for books-turned-TV shows, I can hardly contain my excitement about HBO’s upcoming adaptation of Grady Hendrix’s “The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires“! I remember the thrill of reading this novel back in 2020 and being utterly captivated by its unique blend of horror, dark comedy, and southern charm.

The highly-acclaimed novel “The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires,” penned by American author Grady Hendrix, is currently being adapted into a TV series for HBO. Learn more about the forthcoming program in the following details.

Back in February 2020, we became aware that producer Patrick Moran and his PKM Productions had acquired the rights to a horror novel for a television series adaptation after a fierce bidding war. At that point, the development of this project was underway at Amazon. However, things have since shifted as Moran has left the project, and HBO is now taking over from Amazon.

In a humorous context, Hendrix teams up with Danny McBride and Edi Patterson for scriptwriting in the development of a comedy series. The team, which also includes Brandon James and Quirk Books (the publisher of the original novel), serves as executive producers. The number of episodes or who will be directing is currently unspecified, and no casting decisions have been made at this time. As soon as more details emerge, we’ll keep you updated promptly.
