The Snow Girl Season 2’s Jaw-Dropping Twist Ending Explained

In simple terms, the second installment of “The Snow Girl” (or “La Chica de Nieve”) is here to ramp up the intrigue and unexpected turns that have held fans enthralled since its 2023 Netflix premiere. This Spanish series, inspired by Javier Castillo’s novel series of the same name, has garnered much acclaim for its unique blend of a somber atmosphere, deeply layered characters, and nail-biting suspense. The story centers around Miren Rojo (played by Milena Smit), a courageous journalist who finds herself embroiled in investigations involving traumatic kidnappings and assaults that push her to her emotional and physical limits. As she delves deeper, she uncovers secrets connecting the past and present in a chilling manner.

The second series escalates the suspenseful ambiance and intricate plot, introducing more cryptic dangers and a mental chess game with catastrophic outcomes. The opening episode of this new season presents the vanishing of numerous young individuals alongside shadowy figures orchestrating the destinies of those entangled. For Miren, the border between righteousness and retribution becomes increasingly indistinct.

In the second series, the tension and convoluted narrative are cranked up a notch, featuring more puzzling perils and a dangerous psychological cat-and-mouse game. The initial episode of this new season showcases the disappearance of several youths as well as enigmatic forces controlling the lives of those implicated. Miren’s distinction between justice and vengeance becomes progressively unclear.

For those who are hooked on the series, brace yourself for another round of suspense and surprising findings. And if you haven’t dived into The Snow Girl yet, this could be just the right moment to get acquainted with a tale that will grip your interest from start to finish, leaving you breathless until the ultimate truth unfolds.

The game begins

The story kicks off as Miren receives an enigmatic letter, propelling her into a fresh investigation. She endeavors to connect the murder of Allison Hernández, a distinguished student, with a disappearance from over nine years ago, that of Laura Valdivia. Both girls attended Los Arcos Málaga school, and intrigue grows when it’s suggested that the school could be tied to these events, potentially implicating the principal in the mystery.

As I delve deeper into the mystery, a pivotal piece of information surfaces: the “Soul Game” hinted at in the title. You see, before her untimely demise, Allison was involved in this perilous pastime. In this game, seemingly trivial acts of bravery, such as crossing train tracks, could hold deadly repercussions.

In episode 2, Eduardo Vergara’s unexpected demise, who was both Miren’s mentor and a significant figure at her newspaper Sur, adds an intriguing turn to the storyline. The cause of Eduardo’s death, believed to be a heart attack, leaves Miren in doubt about her ability to carry on with the investigation, as she grapples with her grief.

The Soul Game

In her quest for truth, Miren stumbles upon another puzzling message and a webpage for “The Soul Game.” Accepting this intriguing challenge, she believes it could provide answers. However, as the game unfolds, it becomes increasingly intimate and perilous. As time goes on, Miren finds herself in a desperate battle to unravel the secret behind Laura’s vanishing act. With each fresh hint, the reporter starts to comprehend that Laura had been concealing something.

As I delve deeper into the gripping narrative of “The Crow’s Game,” my focus shifts to Borja Pineda, a student at Los Arcos. His story takes an unexpected turn when he is confronted by the game’s enigmatic owner, nicknamed “The Crow of God.” In a fateful moment, Borja was challenged, leading to a life-altering accident. Though he miraculously survived, the scars etched across his face serve as grim reminders of the lengths young players will go to find their place in this world.

In a heart-wrenching twist, the game pushes Miren, another character, to confront her darkest memories. The intensity peaks when she is forced to relive the horrors of the night she was assaulted—the most harrowing night of her life.

Laura and Los Arcos

In the third installment, a fresh recruit at Sur’s news team, Jaime, encounters an individual who allegedly saw Laura on her last day. This eyewitness, who happens to be a florist, asserts that he noticed the young woman with a sorrowful expression, moments before she was driven away in a car. This observation hints at the possibility that she may have departed with someone familiar.

As Miren edges nearer to uncovering the facts, it’s unveiled that Laura was associated with a more seasoned individual named Alberto Mendoza. On that specific day, he escorted her to a residence of his, known as the Green House.

We will delve into the narrative of Andrés Garrido, the school principal, who later uncovered to be both the inventor of the Soul Game and the founder of “The Crows of God,” a religious group established while he was a student at Los Arcos in 1983. The members of this group utilized the Bible for selecting the challenges within the game they developed. Tragically, one of the early casualties was Alicia Martos, a young girl who perished during one such test, and her demise was concealed by the influential families of the students involved.

Nacho and Borja

This season introduces Nacho and Borja as two teenage lads, neither of whom knows the other, yet they have a shared interest – the Soul Game.

Nacho, who is Laura’s younger brother, is the focus of Miren’s investigation as she seeks answers about Allison. Tragedy struck their family when both Laura and Nacho lost their parents in a house fire, leaving them under the care of uncles. One day, Nacho approaches Miren at her home and expresses his desire to help uncover what happened to Laura. Intrigued, Miren allows him inside. Through digital communication with someone known as the Crow of God, they both receive a mysterious request: Miren must destroy something significant to her – her “Lost Girls” workspace filled with case files on missing girls. She had long suspected this room was linked to a group called the Slide organization, infamous for abducting young women, recording their assaults, and selling the recordings.

In my opinion, as a movie reviewer, when the protagonist Miren chooses to expose the truth to the authorities and ends her involvement in the game, the enigmatic character Nacho unveils his true identity: the reincarnated Crow of God, now controlling the Soul Game. Teacher Garrido had previously relinquished this role after Alicia’s demise, but whispers about the game persisted within the school halls. Revitalized by these rumors, Nacho had manipulated events. His confidant – the solitary Borja, who found a sense of purpose and companionship in his association with Nacho – impersonated the Crow of God to mislead Miren. The death of Allison, he admits, was his doing, claiming it was an act of compassion driven by a religious belief that ridding her of sin through death would bring her closer to divinity. The bitter animosity Nacho harbored towards Miren, compelling him to ensnare her in this perilous game: she hadn’t made sufficient efforts to locate his cherished elder sister sooner. Ironically, it was revealed that Nacho was the one responsible for the death of her respected mentor as well.

With Borja, Nacho abducts Miren, the journalist, and confines her for a final challenge: an endurance test. However, Borja decides to opt out, causing Nacho to murder him. Desperate to escape, Miren tries to deceive Nacho but is spotted on a nearby shore by the youth, who fatally wounds her. In a surprising turn of events, Miren manages to stab Nacho in return using the knife he carelessly left next to her. Exhausted and injured, they both collapse, lying side by side in a pool of their own blood, unconscious.

Millán and Chaparro, two police officers who have been assisting Miren since the initial season, reach the location following a warrant for locating Borja’s phone, as they suspect him of deceiving them regarding the Soul Game. Upon discovering Miren in the vicinity, they announce that Nacho has perished, though fortunately, Miren is still alive.

What happens to Miren?

It transpired in the previous episode that Laura was actually alive throughout, revealing to Jamie that she had fled and joined Alberto Mendoza one year after her brother’s demise. During her adolescence, she conceived a child by him.

Instead of regarding herself as a victim, she preferred to focus on living her life happily with the man she adored and their offspring. Her choice to depart was motivated by her apprehension about the disapproval of her uncles towards her romantic involvement with an older man.

Laura sought out Miren to offer an apology for Nacho’s actions towards her, however, she eventually understood that Miren had given up journalism and vanished without a trace. Her whereabouts remain unknown. Jaime has been conducting investigations but has yet to locate her; instead, he encounters posts from different individuals inquiring about the missing journalist.

Ultimately, law enforcement officers storm a building that served as the Slide group’s headquarters. Inside this location, they uncover numerous videotapes detailing rapes, among them one dating back to 2009 which shows the attack on Miren. Whether Netflix decides to continue the series for another season remains to be seen, and with it, we might learn more about her fate.
