The Sims 5 Seemingly Not a Thing, as EA Confirms Ongoing Support For The Sims 4

As a dedicated fan with over a decade of Sims-playing experience under my belt, I must say I find this new direction for The Sims series intriguing! The idea of not starting from scratch in the next game and instead building upon the progress made in The Sims 4 is a refreshing twist. It’s like moving into a new house but finding all your favorite furniture already there, ready to make memories anew.

EA and Maxis have disclosed updates regarding The Sims series future, hinting that the upcoming major title, tentatively known as Project Rene, might not be a direct sequel to The Sims 4, but rather a new addition that could run concurrently with it.

In the upcoming Sims game, you won’t need to begin anew as your content and progression are expected to carry over from The Sims 4. Project Rene is designed to offer a fresh Sims experience, concentrating on creating opportunities for players to interact, connect, and exchange while exploring a brand-new world together.

In a blog post discussing the future of The Sims, Electronic Arts (EA) and Maxis shared their plans to transition from traditional, sequential releases of The Sims games. Instead, they aim to provide players with an unprecedented array of choices, suggesting that the next stage for The Sims Franchise won’t necessarily be Sims 5 as a direct successor to Sims 4.

Essentially, Gorman conveyed that we’ll carry on delivering an HD simulation experience with enhancements similar to a version 5. However, this doesn’t imply a complete reset or starting over from scratch, erasing all the impressive progress you’ve made in version 4. Instead, it seems like you’ll build upon your past achievements.

Previously, The Sims series was launched with games like Sims 1, 2, 3, and 4, which were often perceived as updates or replacements for their predecessors. However, the team is now focusing on a fresh chapter for The Sims, rather than creating replacements of past projects. Instead, they aim to expand and enrich the universe further, as stated by them.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that there are numerous avenues to engage with The Sims across various platforms, each offering unique playstyles and transmedia experiences. This universe is brimming with fantastic content, and I’m excited to say that our support for The Sims 4 remains stronger than ever! We’re continuing to roll out expansion packs, updates, and fixes, ensuring the game remains fresh and enjoyable.

She concluded by stating that the future of The Sims means doing things “a little different”.

It makes sense given the sheer number of DLC packs and other features that have been added to The Sims 4 since its initial release ten years ago. Meanwhile, there’s a playtest for Project Rene that you can sign up for via The Sims Labs, and a Sims live-action movie adaptation starring Margot Robbie in the works at Amazon MGM Studios.
