The Simpsons kills off longtime character for good after 34 YEARS following string of shock deaths

The Simpsons has revealed its latest longtime character to kick the bucket.

In the November 16th episode, called “Sashes To Sashes,” the show said farewell to a character who first appeared in 1991, during its second season.

During a church service, organist Alice Glick suddenly collapsed onto the organ, startling Reverend Lovejoy and the entire congregation, including the Simpsons.

Her death marked the end of the character’s 34 year, 35 season run.

Honestly, as a longtime fan, it’s been really tough watching the show lately. We’ve been upset about a couple of things – they’ve killed off characters we liked, even if they weren’t main players, and it feels like it’s just dragging on. You can really hear how much older the voice actors are getting, and it’s starting to feel like the show should have wrapped things up already.

Tim Long, an executive producer for The Simpsons, told People magazine that Alice will not appear in future episodes after her character died in season 37, episode seven.

He explained that Alice, the organist, will be remembered through her wonderful music, effectively living on through it. However, he quickly added that, realistically, she is definitely gone.

Interestingly, the character was previously shown as deceased, but it was later revealed she was still alive within the world of The Simpsons.

In a Season 23 episode called “Replaceable You,” Alice was attacked by a robotic pet, leading many viewers to believe she was killed off the show.

Confusingly, Alice returned in subsequent episodes — both in her usual form and as a ghost.

Fans of The Simpsons have decided the episode doesn’t fit with the show’s official storyline, based on how the character appeared in later episodes.

Alice first became popular thanks to a fantastic voice performance by the celebrated actress Cloris Leachman, who sadly passed away in 2021 at the age of 94.

Tress MacNeille, a long-time voice actor on The Simpsons and now 74 years old, continued to voice the character of Alice in every appearance she made over the following decades.

In his first appearance, the Season Two episode “Three Men And A Comic Book,” Bart Simpson did various chores for Alice to earn money towards a $100 comic book he wanted.

Mrs. Glick doesn’t pay much for chores – just fifty cents each. So, Bart teams up with Milhouse and Martin to earn enough money, but they quickly become obsessed with getting the comic and start arguing over it.

On X (formerly Twitter) fans had mixed reactions to Mrs. Glick’s death.

Many people honored the deceased character, but some used the moment to suggest it’s time for The Simpsons to conclude after years of declining quality, as most viewers feel the show hasn’t been as good since its early seasons.

‘RIP Alice Glick,’ one poster wrote, while another joked, ‘Alice Glick is dead…Again.’

‘Oh my gosh. Someone update The Simpsons wikis about Alice Glick,’ another poster added.

Someone made a dismissive comment about others being upset over a character’s death, pointing out it was just an animated show.

They found it hilarious, calling the entire situation like something out of a cartoon. They pointed out that the characters could reappear whenever the director decided.

Someone else grumbled, ‘Does anyone still watch The Simpsons? So many of the original, talented voice actors have either passed away or moved on, and the show just isn’t funny like it used to be.’

One fan advised others that ‘None of this matters when you stop at season 13.’

The Simpsons caused a stir in June when they briefly showed Marge Simpson dying in a future episode. It was just a quick glimpse of what might happen years from now, but it still sparked debate among fans.

Prior to that, a string of minor characters had been killed off, including Larry the Barfly.

Sideshow Bob, Bart’s recurring enemy voiced by Kelsey Grammer, seemingly died in a 2023 Halloween special. However, this episode was a ‘flash-forward’ and isn’t considered part of the show’s official storyline.
