The Simpsons has had its future confirmed, and has broken a major record in the process.
For over three decades, starting from 1989, the lively comedic series centered around the antics of the Simpson clan and the townsfolk of Springfield has remained on the air across 36 seasons.
The show will continue on US network Fox for an additional four seasons, totaling 15 episodes per season. This means the series will run up to episode 861 in total.
In other words, The Simpsons just shattered three massive milestones, milestones once owned by The Simpsons themselves.
The program currently holds the distinction as the longest-running American animated series, American sitcom, and scripted primetime series, and it has recently added an additional four years, making it even harder for other shows to challenge its title-holding positions.
FOX has granted both “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers” a four-season extension, while “American Dad” will return to the network for another four seasons following a ten-year run of debuting fresh episodes on TBS.
According to Variety, Rob Wade, CEO of Fox Entertainment, expressed that the length of this contract underscores our dedication to the thriving relationship we’ve nurtured with the exceptional Disney team.

20th Television Animation’s head, Marci Proietto, stated that the multi-season contract we’ve had with Fox for these renowned animated series is nothing short of groundbreaking.
It makes us incredibly happy that these iconic series, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, and Bob’s Burgers, will produce countless more episodes in the future. This means that both new and dedicated fans can enjoy, revisit, and immerse themselves in these shows for years to come.
In the UK, you can stream shows like “The Simpsons”, “Family Guy”, “Bob’s Burgers”, and “American Dad” on Disney+. Additionally, older episodes of “The Simpsons” are also aired on Sky Showcase and E4.
