Matt Selman, a writer for The Simpsons, recently shared that Will Ferrell is the one celebrity he’s still hoping to get to appear as a guest star. He mentioned this after the show celebrated its 800th episode.
In an interview with People magazine, Selman, the showrunner for The Simpsons, revealed which celebrity he’d most like to have as a guest on his show.
“Will Ferrell”, Selman answered, adding: “Come on, Will. We keep writing great stuff for you.”

During the interview, Selman also discussed the show’s uncanny ability to seem like it predicts the future. He explained that attempting to forecast events, or even avoid forecasting, actually makes the predictions less accurate. He believes the best approach is to simply let things unfold naturally, without trying to control the outcome.
He explained that people have a deep desire for magic to be true. The core idea, he said, is that people want to believe in it. This then leads to the question: is magic actually real?

People believe it’s happening, so to them, it is. However, I’m not convinced it’s actually true. Regardless, coincidences definitely happen. It would be far stranger if nothing ever coincided by chance.
Selman recently revealed the inspiration behind the plot of yesterday’s 800th episode of the show – the 2004 movie National Treasure. He explained how the film sparked the idea for the storyline.
I’m fortunate to have incredibly talented writers who come up with ideas for me, and I happily take the praise,” he joked. “They suggested we film one of our humorous travel shows in Philadelphia.

“We wanted to do the show about the emotional rollercoaster of pet ownership. And they also wanted to do a show that parodied a National Treasure-type Jerry Bruckheimer adventure movie,” he added.
Recently, The Simpsons said farewell to a beloved character after almost thirty years. Duffman, the show’s energetic beer mascot, has been retired permanently.
This comes after the show killed off long-running character Alice Glick, the church organist.
In the US, you can watch The Simpsons on FOX every Sunday. If you’re in the UK, the show is currently available to stream on Disney+. Plus, a sequel to The Simpsons Movie is planned to come out on July 23, 2027.
