Netmarble has shared a fresh developer insight video for their upcoming open-world action RPG titled “The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin”. This video offers fans a detailed glimpse into the game’s creation process, including responses to questions from the community through their official Discord channel.

Aiming for quality with a 2025 release

Before addressing queries from the community, the Executive Producer, Koo Do Hyung, expressed the aim of providing an engaging adventure that remains faithful to the source material but also introduces novel elements. Later, he was accompanied by team heads from various departments to address fan-submitted questions through Discord.

When inquired about the release of the game, Mr. Koo disclosed that they are planning to debut the game around the year 2025. They’re dedicated to refining the game’s systems and content to deliver a smooth gaming experience. As of now, there’s no specific launch date set, but he hinted at revealing essential release details in Q3 of 2025.

Simultaneous launch on mobile, PC, and PlayStation 5

Concerning platform availability, the team intends to debut the game on PlayStation 5, smartphones, and personal computers all at once. Mr. Koo mentioned that “balancing console compatibility with mobile optimization has proven challenging,” but they are striving hard to ensure a smooth gaming experience for everyone. Additionally, the game will offer cross-platform play, enabling you to engage with the same content across different devices.

PlayStation 5 exclusive; other consoles may follow in the future

The game is being initially released exclusively on PlayStation 5 for a limited period of time, both on Xbox and Nintendo Switch. He explained that each gaming platform demands unique technical preparations, which makes it challenging to support them all simultaneously. If the game gains significant popularity, they plan to release it on additional platforms in the future.

An expansive world filled with stories and secrets

As a passionate fan, I’d like to share some intriguing insights I gathered about our beloved game, Ye Soon Man‘s, the Lead of Quest, Level, and Scenario, revelations. He hinted at the expansive scope of the game’s main story, stating that it unfolds across various distinctive regions, each with its own captivating setting and ambiance.

As he explained, the game is expected to cover approximately 30 square kilometers and will be packed with diverse side missions, formidable boss creatures, and secret areas for exploration. Additionally, the dungeons will embody the distinct ambiance and motif of each area.

In his statement, Mr. Ye mentioned that they’re striving to make the gaming experience more enjoyable and diverse by incorporating various mini-games. To cater to different preferences, this game will offer both single-player exploration and multiplayer features where teamwork is essential. The team is focusing on ensuring the game can accommodate multiple playstyles.

Event content with seasonal flair and fresh gameplay

Alongside the primary narrative, the team is also developing content tailored for special occasions and events. Mr. Ye mentioned that they are currently working on introducing a relaxed racing mode that allows multiplayer with friends, or a battle mode similar to TRS. Furthermore, these additional modes aren’t merely optional add-ons; instead, they aim to seamlessly blend into the gameplay experience.

The roadmap will incorporate seasonal elements too, featuring “events tailored to the seasons and in-game timings“. Essentially, you can expect fresh themes, regulations, and incentives for each season that correspond with the game’s current timeframe.

The game will offer more heroes first, instead of multiple versions

Afterward, Park Dong Hoon, our Executive Art Director, spoke to a query regarding multiple iterations of the same character. Given that the game is set within a multiverse framework, he noted, characters from various timelines or points in the original narrative could potentially be present.

In the original series, characters evolve and transform throughout, and this game mirrors that concept. Nevertheless, as mentioned by Mr. Park, when it comes to the game’s debut, the team is emphasizing on presenting a diverse array of distinct heroes rather than various iterations of the same one.

The iconic characters will support rather than overshadow

He went on to disclose that the game’s narrative unfolds “during the timeframe between The Seven Deadly Sins series and the Four Knights of the Apocalypse,” featuring a 13-year-old character named Tristan. Throughout his journey, he will meet renowned characters from the series and undergo personal growth through these experiences.

As a dedicated fan, I can confidently say that Mr. Park has reassured us that our beloved characters will indeed make an appearance. However, their roles are tailored to aid Tristan’s personal journey within each episode or serve as companions. The team is also excited to unveil fresh heroes, each with extraordinary qualities not previously showcased in the original series, all while preserving the legacy of the esteemed cast from the past.

Combat depth, character variety, and thoughtful PvP integration

In conversation about the battle system, Park Dong June, Head of Content System, revealed that fights are structured with teams consisting of four characters. Additionally, he mentioned that players can gather and employ a variety of characters, not just the primary hero.

Furthermore, the game combines various genres due to its expansive open-world design, offering a more free-flowing and adaptable gaming experience. The developers also mentioned that they are experimenting and testing different types of player versus player (PvP) content.

They’re not only thinking about one-on-one fights but also examining diverse player versus player (PvP) formats. As for Mr. Park, he mentioned that the team is being careful when implementing PvP, explaining, “We’re aware that some players might find the competitive pressure or feeling obligated to participate too intense.

Since open-world games manage multiple types of content simultaneously, matching players for gameplay is a significant challenge they’re tackling. Currently, the developers are planning to introduce Player versus Player (PvP) content in the form of special events, rather than as permanent features. Keep an eye out for further details on this exciting development soon!

More reveals on the horizon

Looking forward to a 2025 debut, the team intends to keep everyone informed throughout the year. Mr. Koo mentioned that they’ll catch up with everyone again at Gamescom in August. During Operation Night Live, they’ll unveil a new promotional video along with an important announcement.
