The Serpent Queen season 2 episode 7 is the second best episode of the season so far (Review)

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for historical dramas, I must say that The Serpent Queen season 2 has been a rollercoaster ride of intrigue and suspense. While season 1 was undeniably engaging, this season has managed to up the ante significantly.

From my perspective, I found season 1 of “The Serpent Queen” particularly engaging because it delved deeply into Catherine’s struggle for power within France, as well as her complex dynamics with her husband King Henry and his mistress Diane de Poitiers – a tale filled with intrigue.

In the second season of the show, a few episodes have truly shone, and among them are episode 5 and this week’s installment. Here’s my take on “The Serpent Queen” episode 7 from season 2 titled “A House Divided,” which I believe is the second most impressive. Warning: Spoilers follow.

As a seasoned fan of intricate plotlines and character development, I must say that this episode was nothing short of captivating. With each twist and turn, it feels like we’re peeling back layers to uncover the complexities hidden within Catherine’s character. Her smirks towards the camera in episode 7 have me on the edge of my seat, wondering what grand scheme she has been orchestrating all season long.

For me, episode 7 of “The Serpent Queen” season 2 stood out as it was captivating and effectively advanced the plot. Each character experienced something significant – the Bourbons’ deceit was exposed and they chose allegiance with Edith, there might be a wedding between Margot and Francois de Guise, King Charles converts to Protestantism, and Catherine gives Edith the promise of regency. However, I’m skeptical that this will come to pass; we’ll have to wait and see!

Though the passing of Queen Elizabeth has set the stage for change, the future remains uncertain. There are whispers of Charles possibly tying the knot with CeCe of Austria, while Catherine seems to favor Margot marrying Henry Bourbon as a compromise between Catholics and Protestants. As we approach the finale, there’s a sense of intrigue in the air, with many outcomes still hanging by a thread.

As a gamer, I can hardly contain my excitement as we approach the end of this season. Do you remember way back in Season 2’s premiere when Catherine was surrounded by dead bodies at the dinner table? I have no doubt that plotline will resurface! And just like episode 7, the penultimate episode, has skillfully set the stage for what promises to be an explosive finale. My rating for this episode: A.

The Serpent Queen season 2 airs/streams Fridays on Starz.
