The Serpent Queen season 2 episode 6 moves the plot along in a slow pace (which isn't necessarily a bad thing)

As a history enthusiast who has spent countless hours delving into the intricacies of medieval Europe, I must say that The Serpent Queen season 2 is truly living up to its promise! Episode 5 was a masterclass in storytelling, but episode 6, “Courting the Valois,” came pretty darn close.

Last week, I found episode 5 of ‘The Serpent Queen’s second season to be my absolute favorite! The narrative was thrilling and advanced the storyline in an engaging manner. Conversely, episode 6, titled “Courting the Valois,” of ‘The Serpent Queen’s second season seems to progress at a slower pace in its sequel.

What I’m saying is, just because it wasn’t my absolute favorite, doesn’t mean I didn’t find it enjoyable too. In fact, episode 5 remains my top pick. However, the sixth episode of the season did an excellent job showcasing how cleverly royals maneuver to achieve their goals. And let me tell you, that’s one of the things I love most about historical royal dramas!

It’s intriguing to note how the series chose to introduce Queen Elizabeth at the French court, which infuses an additional layer of tension. This episode showcases the impact of her arrival on everyone present. Catherine is eager for her children to display unity, but Charles and Anjou can’t resist their competitive nature. It’s clear that Elizabeth swiftly picks up on this rivalry and exploits it for her benefit.

I appreciate this season because it showcases three powerful women – Catherine, Elizabeth, and Edith – each wielding their own authority. While they may sometimes seem uncontrolled, they undeniably hold the reins of power in unique ways. It’s fascinating to observe, particularly given the context of this time period.

As a devoted fan, I wasn’t surprised to see Elizabeth attempting to drive a wedge between the brothers. However, I was taken aback when Charles fell ill and began coughing up blood. Poor Catherine, it seems her tragic losses are far from over. How many more children will she have to mourn? All in all, I found season 2 episode 6 of The Serpent Queen quite compelling. The plot is steadily unfolding, hinting at dramatic events to come in the final two episodes. With next week being the penultimate episode, it’s time for the drama to reach its climax!

The sixth installment effectively advances the storyline, lays the groundwork for future obstacles faced by Catherine, and sheds light on the motives of various characters. I’m eager for the intensity to pick up again. Rest assured, with this series, we can expect some unexpected surprises along the way. Tune in next week as we critique episode 7 of The Serpent Queen season 2, titled “A House Divided.” (Episode level: B)
