The Serpent Queen season 2 episode 3 recap: Strife in and out of the castle
As a dedicated gamer and avid fan of historical dramas, I can’t get enough of The Serpent Queen and its thrilling third episode, “Death of a Prince.” This series never fails to keep me on the edge of my seat with its complex characters and intricate plotlines.
In the third episode of “The Serpent Queen,” titled “Death of a Prince,” trouble once again brews on the show. The tension between characters continues to escalate and is certain to reach a climax soon. Here’s a summary of what unfolds in this episode:
A surprise relative
I return to my homeland, Italy, after living in France for a long time, filled with excitement as I plan to construct a palace in honor of King Charles. This project is my way of bringing the French people together, regardless of their religious differences. My hope is that this magnificent structure will serve as a symbol of unity and harmony among them.
During her stay, she meets another de Medici, unexpectedly discovering he is her half brother. Their father had been involved with a mistress, and this sibling is the result of their relationship. Initially hesitant towards him, they eventually form a bond. He will be managing the finances for the project, making it intriguing to explore other motivations behind his introduction.
Courting England
As a devoted fan, I’d describe it this way: The tale takes me on a journey to England, where the notorious Queen Elizabeth I makes her entrance. In the initial scene, Mary, Queen of Scots, is held captive by Elizabeth. Elizabeth keeps her alive, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. When that moment arrives, she’ll end Mary’s life with a swift beheading.
Antoine’s wife approaches Elizabeth to discuss the potential trade agreement between France and England suggested by the Bourbons. Elizabeth appears to agree, but I suspect her consent is motivated solely by what’s best for England in the moment. Royal alliances are seldom built on trust.
Troubles at home
When Catherine is absent, Diane stays true to their agreement and shows up to safeguard the royal children, a responsibility they desperately require given the current turmoil. Specifically, Charles and Anjou’s relationship has grown increasingly complicated in recent episodes due to Anjou’s attraction to men and flamboyant fashion sense, which was unconventional for the era. This arrangement does not please many, and tensions rise. Diane manages to persuade Anjou to maintain a more brotherly demeanor towards Charles, and he initially complies.
While venturing out for a hunting excursion with Anjou and Hercules, I suddenly found myself in an unexpected predicament. Anjou, seemingly enraged, took matters into his own hands when one of the Protestant men attempted to re-baptize him. Without hesitation, Anjou drowned the man on the spot. This shocking act did not go unnoticed by the other Protestants who were present. One of them, infuriated, retaliated by throwing a rock at Hercules, resulting in a severe injury for himself. And with that, we’re left hanging, wondering what will unfold next.
However, those are not the only issues at hand. Following the church fire, Protestants have been targeting Catholic churches and their congregations. Edith is instigating these actions, as she made clear in the second episode’s finale, holding a deep disregard for the royals and prepared to challenge them. And this trend is just starting to unfold.
