The Script pay an emotional tribute to late guitarist Mark Sheehan and dedicate a song to him during their Glastonbury set – two years after his death following a brief illness
On Saturday, I had the honor of being part of a heartfelt homage to the late Mark Sheehan, our cherished guitarist, during our performance at Glastonbury.
46-year-old musician passed away at the hospital in April 2023 after a short bout of sickness. His fellow band members were deeply saddened by his untimely demise.
Almost three years since his death, lead singer Danny O’Donaghue offered heartfelt sentiments about his friend and then dedicated a song to him during their performance on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival in Somerset.
After performing their hit song “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved,” at 44 years old, Danny took a seat on the stage’s edge and expressed his wish that Mark was alive to witness their achievements.
He mentioned: “I truly miss having one specific individual present for this moment. Seventeen years prior, he was performing on stage with us. Sadly, our dearest friend and founder of The Script, Mark Sheehan, passed away about a year and a half ago.
I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support that keeps us moving forward. Your kind thoughts and prayers are deeply appreciated – thank you from the bottom of my heart.

With the crowd’s applause echoing, he remarked, “I bet he’s enjoying a drink up there, watching over us. In his honor, I’d like to dedicate this song to him. It’s titled ‘If I Could See You Now.’
Many well-known artists from around the globe are yet to perform this coming weekend. On Saturday, Neil Young will be the main act at the festival, while Olivia Rodrigo will close the weekend’s events on Sunday.
Additionally, Raye, The Libertines, Noah Kahan, and numerous other artists will also be giving performances during the remainder of the festival.
Mark, hailing from Dublin, teamed up with lead vocalist Danny and drummer Glen Power to establish a highly successful rock group back in 2001.
The unfortunate news about his sudden death was shared on the band’s official Facebook page in April 2023, a fortnight following the announcement of their upcoming performance.
A three-time father and skilled guitar player resided in America with his spouse, Rina. Tragically, he passed away on April 14, 2023, after a sudden, unspecified health issue, in a hospital setting.
A statement from their band shared the sad news that their beloved member, husband, father, sibling, and friend Mark Sheehan, has sadly passed away today at the hospital following a short period of sickness.
It continued: ‘The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.’

To initiate his professional journey, Mark embarked on a path as a dancer and imparted Hip-Hop dance skills at Dublin’s Digges Lane Performing Arts Center.
Mark and lead vocalist Danny have been inseparable friends since they were both 12 years old, and prior to that, they used to be bandmates in a group known as Mytown, which originated back in 1996.
In 2001, the band known as The Script originated in Dublin, comprising of Mark on the guitar, Glen Power handling the drums, and Danny taking care of the vocals.
Following his passing, Mark left his £9.4million fortune to his family.
They also achieved global success by selling approximately 20 million records, which featured hits like “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved,” “For the First Time,” “We Cry,” and “Hall of Fame.
Previously, Danny confided that he resorted to drinking, smoking, and other vices following the demise of his bandmate Mark.
Danny confessed that Mark’s passing caused him to lose control, leading him to resort to alcohol and smoking, as he encountered a period of mental struggle.
Over the festive season of Christmas 2023, immersed in the vibrant spirit of my homeland Ireland, I indulged in a heavy round of drinking. However, as the new year approached, I found myself making a personal resolution – to abstain from alcohol. This decision was driven by an urge to confront my grief squarely and honestly, with a clear mind devoid of any intoxicating influence.

Danny shared that he lost his way after Mark’s demise, much like many others often do. He found himself indulging in excessive drinking, smoking, and various other vices. Additionally, he experienced a mental roadblock during this time.
Later on, he expressed: “After a heavy round of drinking during Christmas in Ireland, I declared ‘That’s enough!’ I decided to confront my sorrow while completely sober because, otherwise, you’re merely postponing it.
January marked a significant change for me – I decided to quit alcohol, cigarettes, and caffeine, among other vices… Initially, I had planned to stick with it just for the month of January, but here we are in May now, and I feel fantastic like never before.
‘I feel like I’m starting to come out from the black cloud a little bit now, hence the new music.’
