The Sandman releases behind-the-scenes look at season 2, featuring new gods and Endless

As a lifelong comic book and fantasy series enthusiast who’s been eagerly awaiting the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s masterpiece, “The Sandman”, I must say that Geeked Week has truly outdone itself with the latest revelations! The behind-the-scenes featurette for season 2 of The Sandman was nothing short of a dream come true (pun intended), and it’s left me absolutely giddy with excitement.

The thrill of Geeked Week persists! Last night, Netflix shared numerous trailers and updates for several of its most anticipated series. We learned that Toph has been cast for season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender, new cast members have joined One Piece, a teaser for Squid Game’s second season was unveiled, and there were countless other announcements too numerous to mention. It was an overwhelming amount of content, and it’s been quite enjoyable keeping up with all the latest developments.

A much-anticipated series among fans, “The Sandman,” recently unveiled a behind-the-scenes sneak peek for its upcoming second season. Check it out here:

there’s a wealth of exciting elements within it, ranging from the reappearance of Tom Sturridge as Dream and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as his sister Death, to a grand feast for the Endless, gods, and the like. This grand feast is inspired by Season of Mills, a memorable aspect of the comic book series that will be adapted for season 2 on screen.

The group responsible for the TV series seems quite eager to depict a specific aspect of the comics – namely, the gathering of the Endless characters at a dinner, which is a rare instance where they all appear together in the story. As Tom Sturridge put it, “One of the most exhilarating aspects of this season is seeing the siblings of the Endless assembled in one location for the first time on screen, and witnessing this remarkable family come to life together.

We even get a look at some more of those Endless in the teaser, including the return of Mason Alexander Park as Desire, and Donna Preston as Despair:

However, in “Season of Mists”, it isn’t just the Endless who are part of the story. Eventually, a grand gathering for various deities takes place, and that’s when characters such as Thor, Loki, and Odin make their appearance. Interestingly, this video gives us our first glimpse of these three characters. The role of Thor is taken by Laurence O’Fuarain from “The Witcher: Blood Origin”, Loki by Freddie Fox from “House of the Dragon”, and Odin by Clive Russell, who many might remember as the Blackfish from “Game of Thrones”.

Allan Heinberg, the showrunner, singled out that scene as one of his favorites, stating, “I can’t wait for viewers to witness the grand feast Dream organizes for all the visiting gods, deities, and fairies in Season of Mists. This event marks the introduction of Thor, Loki, and Odin, among others. It’s truly a spectacle, as everywhere you look, something fascinating and terrifying is unfolding.

When will The Sandman season 2 premiere on Netflix?

As a diehard gamer, I’ve got to say that the teaser for The Sandman looks absolutely fantastic! Now, here’s the big question – when can we expect to see season 2? Well, buckle up, folks! This sneak peek confirms that we’ll be diving back into the world of The Sandman on Netflix in 2025. That’s around three years after season 1 made its grand debut in mid-2022, which is a bit of a wait, I must admit. But given the significant impact of the Hollywood writers and actors strikes on the production, it was clear that there would be some delay. So, let’s just hunker down and enjoy the journey until then!

It’s worth noting that Netflix hasn’t revealed the release timetable for “The Sandman” yet. The initial season was released in its entirety, with an additional bonus episode appearing a few months later. When “The Sandman” was initially renewed, Netflix was rather vague about labeling it as “season 2.” As a result, we’re currently unaware of whether it will be divided into segments, released all at once, or distributed in some other way.

Moving forward, a significant point to consider is the future of The Sandman. Currently, Neil Gaiman is dealing with accusations of sexual misconduct by several women, leading to delays in various adaptations such as Good Omens season 3 on Amazon Prime Video and The Graveyard Book at Disney. Since The Sandman concluded filming in August, the allegations had minimal impact on its production…or so it seems. There are whispers that The Sandman may have filmed scenes from the final arc of the comic series for season 2, causing some fans to speculate that the show might conclude earlier than anticipated.

You’ll find out when it’s broadcasted, so stay tuned for the second season of “The Sandman” hitting Netflix in 2025!
