The Salem's Lot movie is still happening and it's coming to Max this October!

As a die-hard fan of all things Stephen King and horror, I must say that the upcoming release of the new Salem’s Lot movie has my pulse racing! I remember reading the original novel back in ’75 and being utterly spellbound by its chilling tale of vampires taking over a small town. The 1979 miniseries was a close second, and I still recall watching it with the lights off, my heart pounding in my chest.

As Halloween approaches, there are increasingly thrilling announcements about the horror collection for autumn. Today, we learned that the long-awaited “Salem’s Lot” film is set to be released, and it won’t be much longer before we can watch it! According to Vanity Fair, they recently went behind the scenes of the upcoming Stephen King adaptation and revealed that the movie will debut on Max in October.

The movie “Salem’s Lot” is created by Gary Dauberman, who has previously worked on horror films like “Annabelle,” “The Nun,” “It,” and “It Chapter Two.” Initially announced in 2019, filming occurred between the years 2021 and 2022. However, it faced complications during post-production, causing several delays. Originally planned for a theater release, rumors of its shift to streaming emerged in 2023 due to an alleged need for additional content on Max amidst the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Get your first look at the Salem’s Lot movie

It’s been a while since we heard any news about “Salem’s Lot”, causing quite a bit of impatience, even from Stephen King himself. Will there be a movie? At long last, we have an answer – yes! Although I would prefer it in theaters, I’m just happy that we’ll get to watch it. And based on the exclusive first-look images shared by Vanity Fair (check out the tweet below for more), this seems very promising! You can click on the article linked in the tweet to see all the pictures they’ve released.

In the main cast of Salem’s Lot, you’ll find Lewis Pullman, joined by Pilou Asbæk, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, William Sadler, Bill Camp, along with several other talented actors.

1975 saw the publication of Stephen King’s novel “Salem’s Lot”, where a writer goes back to his small-town home in search of creative spark, only to discover it’s under the control of a vampire. Previously, Dauberman’s wasn’t the initial live-action portrayal; horror enthusiasts will recall the 1979 miniseries helmed by Tobe Hooper, featuring David Soul and James Mason. This miniseries aired on CBS and garnered praise, eventually becoming one of King’s best adaptation successes. Subsequently, a follow-up, “A Return to Salem’s Lot”, was produced, but unfortunately, it didn’t receive the same level of acclaim.

In 2004, another miniseries of “Salem’s Lot” was aired on TNT, featuring Rob Lowe and other well-known actors in a contemporary remake. This version garnered generally favorable reviews, but nothing surpasses the original. Will the latest adaptation measure up?

In conversation with Vanity Fair, Dauberman expressed his enthusiasm saying, “It’s great that it’s now being revealed for everyone to witness!” We couldn’t agree more!

We’ll inform our audience as soon as there’s an official release date for “Salem’s Lot,” but rest assured, it will be available on Max in October.
