Even though Avengers: Doomsday is still being finished, the movie’s marketing campaign is already underway. Recently, directors Joe and Anthony Russo—known as the Russo Brothers—posted something online that intentionally created mystery, suggesting each trailer contains a hidden clue.

The videos released over the past month aren’t typical previews or trailers – they’re actually pieces of a larger story, offering hints about what’s to come. The Russo brothers urged fans to watch closely, adding the hashtag #DoomsdayHasBegun. This message accompanied a new trailer showing leaders from Wakanda meeting with Ben Grimm.
These aren’t typical trailers; they’re a clever marketing tactic to reignite excitement for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It also highlights how fans now actively hunt for hidden details and clues in everything they see.
What the Trailers Show
For four weeks in a row, a trailer for the new Avengers: Doomsday movie was shown before screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Each week featured a different focus, starting with Captain America, then moving to Thor, the X-Men from the Fox films, and finally the characters from Wakanda and the Fantastic Four.

Initially, the trailers don’t appear to hide any hidden messages. The trailer focusing on Steve Rogers confirmed Chris Evans’ return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something that hadn’t been officially announced before. The glimpse of Thor suggested the character would be regaining the respect of fans after some previous missteps. The trailer for the X-Men heavily relied on familiar imagery and feelings from the past, and the last trailer highlighted just how massive this crossover event will be.
After the Russo brothers suggested the trailers contained more than just previews, fans quickly began investigating. It now appears they may have figured out a hidden message or meaning.
Digging Deep and Cracking the Code
I’ve been digging into the new trailers, and it’s amazing what fans are uncovering! We’ve noticed that right before the release date and the ‘Doomsday’ clock, there are a few quick flashes of what look like random letters and numbers. In the Steve Rogers trailer, specifically, it shows ‘1e:24ber:02020’ – it’s gotta mean something, right? We’re all trying to figure out what this hidden code is!

SuperHeroHype discovered the seemingly random text isn’t random at all. It looks like hidden timestamps pointing to specific moments in Avengers: Endgame, the final Marvel movie directed by the Russo brothers. While fans are still discussing exactly which scenes the timestamps refer to and what it all means, the tactic clearly worked – it’s gotten people to re-watch the trailers and discuss them in detail.
As a movie buff, I’ve noticed something interesting lately. It feels like everyone’s really into digging for hidden meanings in films – even when those meanings aren’t actually there! This particular approach really took off at the perfect time, tapping into that desire to find something extra.
Secret Messages, Real and Otherwise
Before the “Conformity Gate” theory took over online discussions about Stranger Things, the trailers for Doomsday had already been released. Fans who were unhappy with the show’s ending started carefully rewatching episodes, hoping to find hidden clues about a secret, alternate conclusion. They scrutinized everything from the positioning of objects to the actors’ hand movements, and many became convinced that a new episode would be released at a certain time. The number of people checking for it actually caused temporary issues with Netflix’s servers.

Despite a lot of searching, fans didn’t find a hidden message or different ending in Stranger Things. However, the intense effort showed how much people enjoy trying to solve mysteries within the shows and movies they love. The recent discovery of secrets in Doomsday might please those who like to investigate, but it’s still unclear if that will encourage more people to see the film.
