The Roof Collapsed During A Final Destination Screening, And I Would Have Been Panicking
As a movie enthusiast, I’d gladly shell out a bit more for an immersive cinematic experience. However, last week, some fellow cinephiles in Argentina learned the hard way that there’s indeed a limit to how immersive it should be. During a screening of Final Destination: Bloodlines, patrons at Cinema Ocho in La Plata were left terrified when the roof gave way, showering them with debris from the collapse. This unfortunate incident occurred in Buenos Aires.
Based on news accounts, the situation inside the theater was initially disorganized due to attendees being unsure if it was part of the film. Approximately 40 people were reportedly in attendance and heard a loud sound, followed by pieces of the ceiling collapsing and striking audience members in their seats. A woman celebrating her birthday at the screening told InfoBae that she needed to go to the hospital for X-rays and had already sought legal advice. Some individuals suffered minor injuries like bruises and scrapes, but fortunately, no one appears to have sustained serious long-term physical harm.
Regardless of the program airing at the moment, the roof collapse would have drawn media coverage; however, it being a screening of ‘Final Destination’ has propelled the event into global headlines. The series is famed for its gruesome injuries and shocking fatalities, and the screenings in 4DX let viewers experience these events from the Death Seat.
To put it personally, there’s no film series that leaves me feeling uneasy quite like the Final Destination. Other horror flicks may have isolated frightening scenes or entire movies that are downright chilling, but none have left such a lasting impression on me with their recurring “what if” moments.
It’s not just me who feels this way. My wife often compares situations that seem dangerous to scenes from the movie “Final Destination,” and many others I’ve spoken to over the years have expressed similar feelings too.
Imagine yourself watching a movie like “Final Destination” and, unexpectedly, the roof caves in. In such an instant, it’s hard to say what thoughts might race through one’s mind. However, instinctively, I suspect I’d be rushing towards the exits as fast as possible. My heart would likely be pounding from the movie itself, making any sudden situation feel even more terrifying.
It’s being suggested that an uptick in storms and rain could be behind the sudden deterioration of the theater located in Buenos Aires. An investigation is likely to follow given the potential for legal action, such as lawsuits, or negotiations.
So far, as far as I’m aware, there’s been just one strange occurrence in any global screenings of the Final Destination series. This film took the top spot on its opening weekend at the box office earlier this month and managed a solid third place showing last weekend against Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible 8. I suspect it’ll keep running for quite some time. If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend catching it soon. It’s definitely worth watching, assuming you can find a spot to watch it amidst the falling debris.
