Filming has officially finished, as announced by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
The announcement follows closely after news about a scheduling change for the adventure sequel. Originally planned for release on December 11th, the film has been pushed back to December 25th to avoid clashing with the highly anticipated release of Dune: Part Three on December 17th, which now directly competes with Avengers: Doomsday.
Jumanji 4 Will Wrap the Franchise
Filming is underway for the fourth movie in the ‘Jumanji’ series. This is the third film starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart, and the fourth installment overall, counting the original 1995 film with Robin Williams.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson announced the official completion of the Jumanji project, calling it one of the most enjoyable and creatively fulfilling experiences of his career.
Johnson also announced that this would be the last movie in the popular adventure series.
Dwayne Johnson announced that filming for Jumanji 4 has finished. He posted photos of himself with his co-stars – Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black – and shared his appreciation for the entire cast and crew, including director Jake Kasdan, who has directed all three Jumanji movies.
Dwayne Johnson paid tribute to Robin Williams, a key figure in the ‘Jumanji’ films, even though Williams wasn’t in the most recent three movies. Johnson wrote, “This final film is dedicated to Robin Williams. Playing Dr. Smolder Bravestone was a true honor, and I did it with deep respect, love, and joy, channeling his spirit.”
Recently released behind-the-scenes pictures show the next Jumanji movie will take place in a city. The previous film, Jumanji: The Next Level, ended with a hint that the game’s action would spill into the real world – specifically, with jungle animals appearing in a city street. These new photos confirm that shift, showing the characters played by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black filming in Boston.
More Jumanji Stars Praised the Film
Gillan finished filming on March 12th, posting a lighthearted video of her preparing for her final scenes. On March 14th, she shared an old interview from 2014, revealing her long-time love for the franchise, years before she landed the role of Ruby Roundhouse. She expressed her excitement, writing, “This is a dream job, and I feel so lucky to be a part of one of my favorite film series.”
She enthusiastically complimented her co-stars, calling them funny, kind, and incredibly talented. She also thanked director Jake Kasdan, jokingly warning audiences that his new film would be very emotional.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart both publicly complimented her, with Johnson saying she was the steadying force behind their films and deserved all the praise she’s receiving, especially after working with their chaotic trio for three movies. Hart described her as an essential part of their incredible experience.
Jack Black announced on March 11th that filming for Jumanji 3 had wrapped, just a day before Karen Gillan shared the same news. He expressed his appreciation for the film’s crew and said he’s excited for audiences to see it at Christmas!
The Jumanji movies have earned over $2.1 billion at the box office worldwide. The most recent installments, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), brought in a combined total of over $1.7 billion, with the first earning $962.5 million and the second $801.6 million globally.
Jumanji 4 premieres in theaters on Dec. 25.
