There’s no better indication of Sydney than an enigmatic high society figure from China colliding her Tiffany blue Rolls-Royce with a Mercedes van, which was being operated by Kyle Sandilands’ driver.
Prior to Lan Lan Yang taking the driver’s seat, I had seen numerous celebrities, athletes, and fashionable women cruise through the eastern suburbs, reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto, in a procession of expensive cars – yet they often faced merely a light reprimand.
As a devoted enthusiast, I couldn’t help but inject a bit of playful humor into my recent remark. The jest was reminiscent of those engaging video game series we all love, and let me clarify that I was in no way implying that the individuals in question had actually stolen their vehicles.
Although the traffic isn’t as chaotic as that of Moscow during rush hour, the Emerald City still has a notorious reputation for aggressive driving. And when a well-known individual is involved in an incident, you can count on me to jot down the necessary details.
And it’s clear that even the most expensive vehicles are not immune to human error.

In June 2014, former model and Tigerlily swimwear brand founder Jodhi Meares caused quite a spectacle on the peaceful streets of Bellevue Hill when her $200,000 Range Rover veered off the road, hit three parked cars, and flipped onto its side.
Police recorded her blood alcohol level at 0.181 – nearly four times over the legal limit.
From 1999 to 2002, Meares was married to the casino tycoon James Packer; afterward, she admitted guilt, paid a fine of $1,100, and had her license revoked for a period of 12 months.
As a die-hard enthusiast, I found myself standing on the precipice of yet another license suspension – my sixth to be exact – all while harboring a long and checkered past filled with speeding tickets.
In the very same year, and now out of the AFL, Lance “Buddy” Franklin had an accident involving four stationary vehicles as he was driving through Rose Bay.
Witnesses said the impact caused the airbags to deploy.
At that particular moment, Franklin wasn’t under the influence, nor was he sending messages or exceeding the speed limit. However, he received a citation worth $405 for careless driving and had three demerit points deducted from his record.
Later on, he expressed that the event had left him feeling stunned and annoyed to find himself once again making news due to a non-sports-related issue.

Incidentally, the vehicle in question wasn’t owned by him personally; instead, it was lent to his partner at the time, Jesinta Campbell, by Jeep Australia. I suppose you could say it’s a temporary arrangement for public relations purposes.
In February 2014, Bondi beachgoers watched in disbelief as a sedan careered onto the sand.
The police reported an incident where a driver aged 90 apparently lost consciousness while driving along Lamrock Avenue. While in this state, the vehicle veered onto Campbell Parade’s sidewalk, hit several street signs, and subsequently fell off a 60-meter cliff. The car eventually came to a stop at the southern end of the beach.
Incredibly, neither I nor anyone else on the beach sustained any injuries, and the driver managed to walk away with just his dentures missing.
Last week, a Lamborghini lost control and veered off the dangerous curve known as the Bronte bend in Sydney’s Bondi to Coogee walk, skidding onto the sidewalk and colliding with a fence. Remarkably, it ended up only a few meters away from pedestrians.
The 22-year-old driver, who was found not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, was still penalized for careless driving behavior.
Neighbors expressed no shock, as one of them mentioned that the man was frequently spotted cruising back and forth on the street.
In the early hours of last month, on a Saturday (specifically July 26), it is alleged that LanLan Yang, a wealthy heiress, was under the influence of alcohol. According to police reports, she lost control of her $1 million Rolls-Royce Cullinan and drove onto the wrong side of the road, colliding with a Mercedes van.
Yang’s expensive SUV got badly damaged in an accident, and the driver, George Plassaras (a famous chauffeur working for radio personality Kyle Sandilands), was severely injured with fractures to his spine, ribs, hips, and thigh bones, as well as serious internal injuries. He was taken to the hospital.

The event captured public attention, largely due to Yang’s extravagant living, showcasing a high-end wardrobe, a luxurious penthouse with scenic harbor vistas, and an additional Rolls-Royce, along with the lingering enigma surrounding the origin of her wealth.
In the year 2022, a driver operating a Lamborghini Huracan, valued at approximately $420,000, collided with two other vehicles while engaging in a high-speed chase with the police in the southwestern region of Sydney.
The police stated that the vehicle exceeded the speed limit by a significant margin, traveling above 150 kilometers per hour in a 70 kilometer per hour zone. It even surpassed 210 kilometers per hour before the driver eventually lost control.
It’s said that he tried to escape on foot, but he was apprehended and indicted for eight crimes such as leading the police on a chase, attacking officers, refusing to comply with arrest orders, and operating a vehicle while under a ban.
Experiences like these underline the fact that high-end automobiles demand the same, if not greater, degree of care and caution compared to regular vehicles while driving.
