The Rings of Power Soars as Amazon Shifts Focus After Wheel of Time’s Cancellation
Amazon Prime’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” might soon be syndicated, as per reports. Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, led by Chris Ottinger, is now allowing third parties to acquire this high-budget fantasy series for syndication. This announcement follows recent developments on another big-budget fantasy series from Amazon, “The Wheel of Time.
Besides “The Rings of Power,” Amazon is also planning to distribute other series such as “Butterfly” and “Countdown” to third parties. These upcoming shows, including “Butterfly” and “Countdown,” will have a chance at syndication. To clarify, “Countdown” and “Butterfly” will be available 18 months after their respective seasons end. Specifically, “Countdown” is set to debut on Prime in June, while “Butterfly” is expected to premiere later this summer.
The Studio Expects “Top Dollar”
According to Ottinger, he anticipates that “The Rings of Power” could command a significant sum in the market due to its high-quality nature. He justifies this by pointing out that Season 1 of “The Rings of Power” was the most successful TV series debut on Prime Video and at the time, it was also the most-watched returning season. However, the exact price will depend on the partner and their specific plans for broadcasting or streaming the show. If a partner wants to air it during a prime slot like Thursday at 8 p.m., Ottinger expects a premium price for this privilege.
Ahead of Season 3, Celebrimbor Actor Recalls Season 2 Finale
In October 2024, “The Rings of Power” wrapped up its second season and was given the green light for a third. According to recent reports, Season 3 is expected to delve into the initial major conflict in Middle-earth.
Reminding fans, the second season concluded dramatically for the character Celebrimbor, portrayed by Charles Edwards. Previously, in an interview with him, we discussed the demise of his role within the series.
In a lively and enjoyable environment on set, as Edwards, who portrayed the esteemed Elven smith, described, we managed to persevere. When we weren’t busy working or even when we were, there was an amiable, cheerful vibe that enveloped us all. This upbeat energy wasn’t confined just to our team but extended to those working on the same storyline as well.
Edwards also mentioned a particular scene involving Sauron (Vickers) mercilessly slaying Celebrimbor, describing it as somewhat isolated from the rest of the show. This focus was maintained throughout the months of filming for that specific storyline, and the off-set mood mirrored and influenced our performances in front of the camera.

Season 3 is in the Works
The third season of “The Rings of Power” is now streaming on Prime Video. This installment leaps ahead from Season 2’s events, unfolding during the climax of the Elves and Sauron’s war. In this critical phase, Sauron is diligently working to forge the One Ring, a powerful artifact that could tip the scales in his favor, ultimately allowing him to subdue Middle-earth completely.
