Because the TV show on Prime Video can only adapt the main Lord of the Rings trilogy, it relies heavily on the appendices of The Return of the King. These appendices contain information about earlier events – the First and Second Ages – though not as thoroughly detailed as in Tolkien’s The Silmarillion. This forces The Rings of Power to carefully navigate the established story, avoiding material from books they don’t have permission to use. As a result, important elements like the Silmarils haven’t been featured prominently.
The show Rings of Power has referenced the Silmarils and their creator, Feanor, and has also touched on Morgoth, the Dark Lord who stole them. While the first season didn’t delve deeply into the war surrounding these events from the First Age, we probably won’t see much more about the Silmarils themselves. However, season 3 of Rings of Power will connect these ancient artifacts to Sauron’s One Ring in a compelling way.
In The Rings Of Power, Sauron Uses Feanor’s Hammer In The One Ring’s Construction
I just got a first look at the trailer for The Rings of Power season 3 at San Diego Comic-Con, and fans are in for a treat! Season 3 jumps ahead five years after the events of season 2, right into the thick of the war between the Elves and Sauron. Finally, after two seasons of build-up, we’re going to witness the forging of the One Ring – the very moment this Prime Video series has been leading up to. The premiere is slated for November 11, 2026, and trust me, it looks epic.
The trailer for the San Diego Comic-Con event showed us a preview of what to expect. While we’ve always known Sauron created the One Ring in Mount Doom, J.R.R. Tolkien didn’t share many specifics. Now, The Rings of Power series is adding those details, and the trailer clearly shows Sauron using the hammer of Feanor to forge his powerful weapon.
It’s significant that Sauron chose this particular method. Feanor was renowned for crafting incredibly beautiful jewels, each holding the light of the Two Trees and the realm of Valinor. Morgoth desperately wanted these jewels, called the Silmarils, and their theft caused widespread destruction. For Sauron to use the same tools that created the Silmarils – the objects Morgoth so coveted – to forge the One Ring would be a symbolic triumph, a direct insult to the Elves.
Using Feanor’s Hammer To Make The One Ring Is A Huge Insult To The Elves
Feanor is a complex character in Tolkien’s stories, and the Elves have a conflicted view of him. He was incredibly skilled – a true genius with unmatched craftsmanship, even compared to the powerful Valar. However, he was also driven by greed, paranoia, and jealousy. His actions led many of his people to risk their lives pursuing the Silmarils stolen by Morgoth. While his behavior was reprehensible, it’s possible the fight against Morgoth would have been lost entirely if Feanor hadn’t left Valinor.
Feanor is a controversial figure – admired for his incredible creations that forever altered the world and still connect the Elves to the light of Valinor, yet also criticized for his actions. His hammer, a symbol of this complex legacy, should have been preserved as a warning. However, in Rings of Power, it’s become an instrument used to create something even more valuable than Feanor’s famous Silmarils – though other Elves likely wouldn’t see it that way.
